Reference #: 23002637DescriptionTemple University's Main Campus-Facilities Department is searching Stationary and Steam Plant Engineers.Become a part of the Temple family and you will have access to the following:Full medical, dental, vision coveragePaid time off11 Paid Holidays (including the day after Thanksgiving & winter break)Eligible employees and their dependents can earn an undergraduate or graduate degree TUITION FREE (conditions apply)A generous retirement plan and so much more!Hourly Rate: $36.21Job Summary:Reporting to the Engineer & HVAC Supervisor, the Stationary and Steam Plant Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the various mechanical and building systems (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning [HVAC], compressed air systems, vacuum systems, fire alarm, and protection systems, etc.), ensuring occupant comfort and adequate services to the assigned campus buildings. The Engineer is also responsible for monitoring the operation of various mechanical equipment on a regular basis and start, stop, operate, and/or dispatch the appropriate mechanical equipment necessary to maintain occupant comfort and adequate building services. In addition to monitoring and accurately recording various mechanical equipment operating parameters (pressure, temperature, flow, etc.) and meter readings on a regular basis as required for equipment performance monitoring and regulatory recordkeeping compliance. The Engineer will perform the routine mechanical and electrical work necessary to maintain the various mechanical systems in working order and will start, stop, operate, and monitor the various mechanical systems in the assigned buildings through the utilization of the Building Automation System.Perform other duties as assigned.Required Education and Experience:*A minimum of two to three years' experience in operating and maintaining HVAC and other building services in an industrial or educational campus environment.*Experience performing maintenance and repair of various types of mechanical and electrical equipment.*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Must be a graduate of one of the following:*Vocational/technical school (2-year program) specializing in HVAC*Or an accredited apprenticeship program in HVAC (4-5-year program)*Or equivalent trade-specific military school(s) or equivalent corporate training program.Required Skills and Abilities:*Must have a valid City of Philadelphia Engineer Grade A License or be eligible and successfully obtain a City of Philadelphia Engineer Grade A License within the first 120 days of employment.*Must be able to perform tasks that require lifting, climbing, working at heights, and bending.*Must possess adequate manual dexterity to effectively utilize hand and power tools.*Familiarity with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations pertaining to equipment operation and repair.*Knowledge of equipment to minimize the time required to diagnose problems and declare corrective action.*Knowledge of tools, hoisting, rigging, and equipment necessary to isolate, remove, repair, replace, and safely startup.*Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures to minimize repairs and reduce outages.*Capable of assembling a complete list of parts necessary to facilitate repairs or installations.*Ability to evaluate the thoroughness/quality of vendor repaired equipment and their use of parts.*Trouble-shooting equipment and systems and coordinating with other trades, such as electricians, and instrument tech. etc.*Skills to communicate recommendations to supervisor.*Perform tests to measure, air velocity, air temperature, line temperatures, and pressures, etc.Preferred:Experience utilizing a Building Automation System for the operation of various mechanical and building systems.Temple University is committed to a policy of equal opportunity for all in every aspect of its ope ations, including employment, service, and educational programs.
