Our Platform Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated Electrical/Firmware Engineer III to work in collaboration with engineers, scientists, and business professionals to develop new instruments for the Genetic Sciences Division. As a member of multi-functional project teams, together we will develop and deliver instrument and consumable platforms from feasibility through on-market customer care. This role will experience products from many fields, such as DNA sequencing, Rapid DNA analysis, qPCR, and digital PCR.
A day in the Life:
Support and improve on-market instrument platforms by designing, developing and testing the electronic subsystems, developing the firmware for the electronics, and the instrument control to translate manual customer processes into a highly integrated and automated instrument architecture.Communicate and work with external vendors and contractors to ensure timely delivery, price and quality of parts.Work within an established electronic, firmware, and SW control framework and work with lead engineers to design to accepted standards.Make data-driven decisions, use rational design processes, communicate and review designs with peers and extended teams.Develop test plans, test procedures, test fixtures and prepare test reports.Working with project leaders to define schedules and tasks, mitigate technical risks, and manage technical deliverables.Transfer designs to manufacturing by delivering wiring diagrams, schematics, assembly and fab drawings and CAM files, and transferring test fixtures.Support existing systems by collaboration with Operations to define and implement design or process changes according to internal quality systems.Possible travel of up to 25% locally and domestically.
Keys to Success:
Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, physics or similarly related field.
Experience
Proven track record to take ownership of responsibilities, overcome obstacles, develop solutions to technical problems, develop schedules, deliver on commitments, and delight the customer, while working as part of a multi-functional team, including other firmware and instrument control engineers. Three or more years of this experience is typical.Demonstrated ability to work with sophisticated instrument control software and develop the logic to make systems run.Experience in commercial product development, including design of electronics and firmware systems, purchasing, prototyping, troubleshooting, documentation, testing, compliance, and transfer to manufacturing.Completion of a complete EE commercial solution, including design, development and fabrication, which includes control of one or more electro-mechanical systems.Hands-on work of building and reworking assemblies and cables, including through-hole, surface mounted components and crimp terminals.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, microcontrollers, firmware and control of electro mechanical systems.Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate design requirements, estimate design and development time, and prioritize and balance tasks across multiple projects.Demonstrated proficiency with schematic capture and layout software (preferably Altium designer) and software languages such as Python to control systems.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $104,600.00-$174,300.00.
