We'll look to you to support the head of the Employment Law Group, that operates under general supervision and executes on strategy by providing strategic legal and regulatory support for an area or geographic region or global initiative/product(s).
Role Responsibilities
Employment legal lead or support on labour and employment legal matters across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) working in close cooperation with local and global management and regional and functional HR to advance Western Union's workforce strategy.
Responsible for handling a variety of assigned legal projects from moderate to high complexity including: agreements and contracts; bullying, harassment, discrimination and retaliation; compensation & benefits; discipline and performance management; investigations; immigration; litigation; M&A; privacy; terminations; reorganizations; whistleblowing; and managing works councils and trade unions.
Research, analyze and monitor new and existing laws.
Advise on and manage employment-related litigation, providing strategic guidance, defining, and executing litigation strategy, and minimizing financial exposure.
Supporting the Business Integrity Office and People Relations with global investigations.
Advising on mandatory information, consultation and negotiation processes with local works councils and labour unions per local laws, training and advising global functions on statutory labour matters.
Responsible for developing, reviewing and rolling out global policies and guidelines.
Acting as the trusted advisor to senior level management, executives, and senior lawyers within the Company, providing expert employment legal advice.
Managing and supporting outside counsel concerning employment matters in assigned countries.
Negotiating and agreeing alternative fee arrangements, fixed fees and capped fees with outside counsel for daily business as usual and special projects.
Lead on regional reorganization and restructuring projects including mass dismissals, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
Draft bespoke employment/retention/transfer contracts for critical positions, and regularly review employment contract templates in key countries.
Role Requirements
5+ years of related/practical experience in a law firm or corporate legal department, with demonstrated legal expertise in employment law.
Law degree or equivalent and qualification as a lawyer in England and Wales.
Must be able to perform independently and with minimal supervision and/or in a team environment when required.
Strong organizational skills.
Proven ability in fostering collaboration and alignment with key stakeholders.
Ability to interact and communicate effectively, orally & in writing, with all levels of management.
