About Employee Relations Specialist , Amazon

  Description

  The position can be based in Amazon’s new headquarter (HQ2) in Arlington, VA, or the beautiful Seattle, WA. This is a hybrid role (3 days a week in the office) because we believe it is easier to learn, model, practice, and strengthen our culture when we’re in the office surrounded by our colleagues.

  This position requires an individual who has meaningful employee relations experience, subject matter knowledge, and strong emotional intelligence, communication and interpersonal skills that enables the individual to work successfully on a broad spectrum of employee relations issues. The position supports Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Corporate Employee Relations in the Americas as Amazon strives to become Earth’s Best Employer.

  The central objective of Amazon’s Employee Relations team is to ensure our organization’s treatment of every employee is fair, respectful, and consistent with our policies and core business values. To support that objective, 70% to 80% of this role will involve conducting end-to-end workplace investigations at a highly complex and sensitive level. The investigations will primarily involve application of Amazon’s Equal Employment Opportunity and Global Anti-Harassment policies. This work includes creating strategic workplace investigation plans, conducting workplace investigations, partnering with HR and business stakeholders to present disciplinary action recommendations as necessary, and advising on challenging employee situations. The ability to simultaneously drive multiple, highly-sensitive cases forward to timely resolutions is a key requirement of this role. The individual will also work proactively to enhance the employee experience by identifying and addressing employee concerns, as well as de-escalating and resolving workplace issues within the investigations the individual will lead.

  While this role is primarily focused on investigations, there will be opportunities for proactive work depending on organizational needs, personal interest, and individual skills, including:

  • Conducting, analyzing, and action planning from multiple levels of employee feedback and other data to drive and sustain positive employee relations

  • Identifying trends and presenting recommendations to senior level leaders within ER and our partner teams

  • Working directly with employees at all levels to identify, address and resolve concerns through conflict resolution and one-on-one coaching

  • Designing and delivering positive employee relations trainings and communications

  The position reports to an Employee Relations Manager or Principal, and is preferred to sit in our Seattle, Washington headquarters or Arlington, Virginia (HQ2). This is a full-time position that could require travel 30% of the time over the course of the year.

  Basic Qualifications

  Five years in employee relations, functional human resources or labor/employment law, with at least three of those years being recent experience primarily conducting complex workplace/EEO investigations, and/or practicing labor/employment law

  Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree, law degree, or other specialized training in labor/employee relations a significant plus

  Experience working with and applying employment & labor laws throughout the Americas

  Experience simultaneously managing multiple, complex and highly-sensitive workplace investigations to timely resolution. This includes, but is not limited to: creating strategic investigation plans, assessing applicable issues and polices, analyzing data and inputs from multiple sources, distilling complex data and evidence into exemplary investigatory reports, and presenting findings with conclusions and recommendations to HR, employees and business leaders

  Experience coaching, consulting and advising employees and HR & business stakeholders

  Experience managing conflict resolution in the workplace

  Technically proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, & PowerPoint

  Preferred Qualifications

  Sound judgment and decision-making, deploying emotional intelligence in every interaction with our employee base

  Strong interpersonal and persuasion skills, enabling the individual to establish productive partnerships and work collaboratively across management levels and personalities to influence senior leadership, stakeholders, peers and employees at all levels across a large, dispersed organization

  Outstanding written communication skills and the ability to independently develop effective executive level messaging, reports and presentations

  Proven problem solving and analytical skills in an ambiguous environment with the capacity to work autonomously to manage competing priorities simultaneously while driving cases and projects to closure

  Experience working with quantitative and qualitative data to identify root causes, recognize patterns, and develop creative, innovative solutions for complex problems

  Acts with sense of urgency, a bias for action, and with a desire to thrive in a dynamically growing environment

  Highly motivated, confident, resilient, thoughtful, proactive and intellectually curious

  Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with extreme discretion

  Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $51,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $123,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
