Kelly Government Solutions is hiring for an electro-mechanical technician on a government contract with our customer in Menlo Park, CA. This is a contract assignment and will last approximately four months and could be extended.
Job Description:
The Chemistry and Catalysis Division within the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Light source (SSRL) Directorate at SLAC seeks a S&E Electro-Mechanical Technician to join the Hard X-ray Spectroscopy Group.
The hard x-ray spectroscopy group is responsible for design, assembly, installation, and support of beamline instrumentation and supporting beamline engineers and users at SSRL.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• The assembly, fabrication, testing, troubleshooting and maintenance of electronics, electro-mechanical, and other systems with guidance from staff engineers.
• Fabricate and assemble mechanical systems, electronic enclosures and fixtures from 3D CAD models, technical drawings or sketches provided by staff engineers.
• Fabricate and install various custom cabling solutions based on individual applications.
• Perform mechanical repair and preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Use of hand tools such as soldering iron, electric drill, hole punch, saw, sander, and other small power tools.
• Keep inventory of common and spare components such as mounting hardware (screws, nuts, …) and Swagelok parts.
• Document Operational & Safety procedures and standards
• Work with experimenters, engineers, physicists, chemists, and other groups on the design, installation, modification and performance of systems.
Required Qualifications:
• Ability to use oscilloscopes, waveform generators, source meters and similar test equipment and an understanding of their individual limitations (e.g., frequency response, resolution)
• Able to effectively communicate technical issues with senior engineers, operators, tech support personnel, vendors and others in a diverse multicultural environment.
Additional Skills:
• Use of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and drill presses to fabricate metal parts within 100-micron tolerances.
• Ability to use 3D printers and 3D printing software. Familiarity with SLA and FDM 3D printers is a plus.
• Ability to calculate cumulative tolerances and interferences is a plus.
