EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to probationary period
CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME: Full-time (40 hours per week) position. The starting time for this position is currently 7:00 a.m.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under direction, is responsible for assisting with proper operation of the electro-mechanical, electrical and electronic devices associated with road construction. Installs, maintains, repairs, erects and lays out devices and associated equipment including poles, overhead/underground installations related to the operations of the electrical department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Installs, services and maintains traffic signals.
Assists with installations, modifications, and repairs of wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatuses and control equipment.
Assists with the modifications of electrical installations to minimize waste of materials, provides access for future maintenance, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, pulls and installs electrical conduit.
Splices wires by stripping installation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together and applying tape or terminal caps.
Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
Assists with the installation of control and distribution apparatuses such as switches, relays and circuit --breaker panels.
Connects power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads.
Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components.
Assists with routine inspections of installed equipment and/or systems to detect hazards and the need for adjustments, relocations or replacement.
Assists with emergency service and preventative maintenance on all electrical equipment and systems.
Operates a variety of electrician's hand tools, power tools, measuring and testing instruments.
Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders necessary for performing tasks above ground level.
Must be able to lift and move objects that weigh up to 80 pounds.
Must be able to climb and work at heights up to and including 150 feet.
Operates a snow plow truck with underbody blade, front plow and salt spreader for winter maintenance.
Required to be available for call out to assist with emergency repairs to traffic signals and other equipment as needed.
Required to participate in random drug and alcohol screens.
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education and Experience:
Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test, supplemented with approved college course work in Electrical Construction, Technology, and or TheoryPreferred Education and Experience:
Four (4) years of experience in practical electrical workRequired Licenses or Certifications:
Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
Possession of a current Michigan Commercial Driver's License and appropriate endorsements (Class A or B with air brake endorsement) within one (1) year of hire date
Preferred Licenses or Certifications
Possession of a current Michigan Commercial Drive
