This position will be based in Japan, primarily at a customer location aboard Marine Corp Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, in support of the Amentum Base Operations & Support contract with the US Department of Defense (DoD)/Navy- Marine Corps.
A successful candidate will have strong communication and problem-solving skills to support a rewarding customer mission. This is full time position providing operational mission support.
In addition to meeting the necessary qualifications the selected candidate must be comfortable working in a dynamic and high-energy environment..
Working Environment: The candidate will work on maintenance sites including exposure to the dangers inherent with traveling to and working on such sites. This is a non-SOFA assignment.
Work Schedule: This position works eight hours/day five days a week minimum. On-call rotation with after-hours response to emergency work orders.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform work required for the repair, maintenance, installation, and modernization of electrical systems for site building's equipment.
Locate and determine electrical malfunctions using test equipment.
Repair malfunctions by such methods as replacing burned out elements, fuses, and replacing defective wiring, cleaning, repairing, or replacing motors.
Test electrical equipment such as motors, heaters and controls for safety and efficiency, using standard test equipment and by observing functions.
Install fixtures, wiring conduits, motors and other electrical equipment.
Inspect circuits for specified shielding and grounding.
Perform inspections and prepares written reports.
Be responsible for facility custodianship of work area and management of tools, equipment and spare parts for the electrical operation.
Take initiative to analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications, safety, and electrical codes.
Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:
Three (3) years electrical experience in operations and maintenance services or rated as Journeyman.
Current Electrical License or Journeyman Electrician Card
Education:
A high school diploma or GED and successful completion of an Apprentice program.Expected Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge of applicable US Codes and acceptable trade practices.
Knowledge and experience regarding occupational hazards of the electrical trade, related safety precautions and considerable skill required for the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment.
Understanding of Frequencies Converters, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS).
Good organizational, time management, and communication skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.
Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.
Computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred:
Electrical AA/AS degree from a two-year college and/or equivalent field experience.
Knowledge in the discipline of operations and maintenance projects in an international environment preferred.
Previous electrical experience in an OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce and/or previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions.
Relevant overseas Electrical experience.
Experience working with SOW, electrical diagrams and blueprints.
Experience with frequency converter/UPS’s, ground testing preferred.
Language Requirement:
Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with employees, management, and the client.
Professional Licenses & Certifications:
AMMO-29 preferred or applicant will be expected to attend and pass the course.Other Requirements:
Candidate must possess a valid passport of home country with a minimum of 12 months remaining to expiration date. If not currently a resident of Japan.
Will be expected to obtain a company-sponsored Japanese Work Visa if not currently a resident of Japan.
Position requires the applicant to drive in the performance of work duties. Applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a Japanese Driver License and be able to operate a Company provided motor vehicle on MCAS Iwakuni.
Transportation is not provided to locally hired personnel for the purpose of commute to and from the workplace. Non-locally hired are expected to obtain and maintain the legal ability to operate a Company provided vehicle both on and off the installation for the purpose of commute and/or on-site transportation. Those unable to obtain and maintain the legal means to operate a motor vehicle in Japan or aboard the installation will be responsible for their own transportation for all purposes.
