What Your Job Will Be Like:
Are you a sharp engineer who can handle a wide variety of roles and responsibilities in a collaborative work environment? Do you have a special interest in defense and national security? Are you energized by the thought of contributing towards multiple programs in a National R&D Laboratory?
We are seeking a driven R&D Electrical Engineer (R&D, Electronics Engineer) to join our diverse and growing engineering teams. In this exciting and dynamic role, you may be performing a number of engineering functions, from crafting design concepts, to developing/testing actual prototypes, to guiding technology maturation efforts, and qualifying innovative fabrication and assembly techniques. You will be supporting engineering efforts across all phases of projects spanning from conceptual-design studies to full scale engineering. Along with fellow engineers, you will be engaging and collaborating regularly with personnel across multiple Sandia organizations, as well as Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratories, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), production agencies throughout the NNSA nuclear security enterprise, and Department of Defense organizations.
After applying, you may be interviewed and/or hired by one of the several engineering focused departments at Sandia/CA, such as Telemetry Engineering and Weapon Subsystems groups.
On any given day, depending on your specialization and interests, your responsibilities may include a few or all of the following tasks:
Design of electronic Printed Wiring Boards and Printed Wiring Assemblies (PWA) including analog and digital circuit design and FPGA firmware development and implementation
Lab testing of electrical components, devices, subsystems and systems
Developing the architecture of higher level electronic subsystems and systems; integrations and testing of multiple PWAs into a subassembly
Preparing and implementing test planning, test execution, requirements derivation
Conducting environmental testing, qualification of development and production hardware
Participating in integration activities with other engineers and product realization teams
Providing technical consultancy on critical design elements
Presenting at technical design reviews
Representing Sandia on multi-organizational project teams
Applicants on this requisition may be interviewed by multiple organizations at Sandia National Laboratories.

About Our Team:
Sandia California's Telemetry and Stockpile Support Department develops and maintains telemetry systems in support of the nuclear deterrence surveillance mission. Telemetry systems has responsibility for all aspects of telemetry development, including conceptual design, prototype development and testing, and transitioning production work to DOE production agencies. Telemetry systems integrate precision sensor electronics and signal conditioning with RF communication systems to support flight testing of Joint Test Assemblies. Work is performed by teams of electrical engineers and mechanical engineers, in partnership with quality engineering, reliability engineering, and project management. Current development mission assignments include the W88 ALT370 JTA8 project, the W78 JTA6R project, and the W76 JTA3 project. Stockpile support oversees the quality, reliability, and availability of all qualified telemetry systems that are being used in the on-going surveillance mission.
Posting Duration:
This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.
Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
