SUMMARY:
The Editorial Assistant is responsible for providing editorial and administrative support to a nonfiction Senior Editor at Little, Brown and Company. This position is based in our New York office on a two-day per week hybrid schedule.
The senior editor’s list continues Little, Brown’s legacy of serious, literary, and commercially exciting books on the cutting edge of history, biography, current affairs, science, and big ideas, focusing on the authors who operate on the highest levels in these categories.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communicate with authors and agents about all aspects of the publishing process, including queries, schedules, payments, etc.Read, report on, and draft responses to book proposals submitted for publicationHelp compile comparative title lists and profit & loss statements for projects under considerationPrepare contract requests and process paymentsEnter title data into proprietary database system and track schedule data throughout publishing processWrite catalog, cover, and promotional copy; prepare title fact sheets and other selling materials; and manage title metadataAssist in editing acquired manuscripts Create and manage art logs, and manage digital assets from delivery through production and publicationTraffic editorial projects through Production, Copyediting, Art, Legal, Publicity, Marketing, and other departments Perform general administrative duties, including preparation of print materials, mailings, drafting correspondence and facilitation of group communicationsCoordinate meeting schedules, manage agendas, and take notesAssist with other projects as needed KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1+ year of publishing experience preferred (internships okay) or other editorial work experienceExcellent organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skillsExceptional written and polished verbal communication skillsSelf-starter with ability to attend to details and juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environmentSolid computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, plus Google Docs and SheetsPassion for general nonfiction, including serious, commercial, and visual projectsProficiency with Adobe Creative Suite a plus As a leading book publisher, we believe that including and representing diverse voices in all aspects of our business is fundamental to what we do. The compensation range for this position is $47,500. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
