Job Summary
The position requires a 12-18 month commitment (depending on course work) with a varying schedule.
In this TEMPORARY position, apprentices will participate in a learning cohort to earn appropriate childcare credentials in a variety of online and in person learning atmospheres. Apprentices are required to complete 480 hours of hands-on experience as well as educational course work. In addition to earning the childcare credential, participants will complete Dena'ina language and culture training. The position is designed to empower apprentices to learn and teach the Dena'ina language. This position will help to provide education and childcare in a variety of settings.
*Hands-on experience includes but is not limited to: supporting and assisting the teacher in providing positive learning experiences, education, and case management for children and families in their care, provide consistent instruction as well as group socialization experiences to parents and children which will enhance the parent's ability to fill the role of primary teacher of their child, teaching Dena'ina language to children.
Essential Functions
With support, complete course work required as part of the apprenticeship in order to receive proper credentialing and complete competency based reviews
Provide basic child care and instruction for infants, toddlers, and/or preschool childrenInteract with children, parents, and other community members in an appropriate and positive mannerProvide for the physical needs of children (change diapers, assist with toilet training, wash and clean children, assist with feeding, prepare naps areas)Release each child to the care of an authorized adultMaintain required documentation and reporting requirementsIndependently organize and prioritize work assignments and coordinate a variety of activities, with good attention to detail and ability to deal with conflicting priorities and deadlinesEnsures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinanceIt is the intent of this job description to highlight the essential functions of the position; however, it is not an all-inclusive list.
