Global Commercial Services (GCS) is a core operating group of American Express and has delivered robust growth over the past decade. GCS partners with corporate clients to help them manage travel expenses and make purchases through proprietary payment solutions and expense management tools.
The Director, Business Development (within US Sales) will be responsible for acquiring business from global, Fortune 500 companies who run similar programs with competitive bank card products. The goal is to displace these competing products with an American Express solution that improves the customer’s overall experience.
Key responsibilities include:
Acquire new customers into the commercial payments business at American Express
Build winning strategies to deliver on annual growth plan through the acquisition of new, large customers.
Lead cross-functional and collaborative teams to drive B2B innovation and strengthen B2B value proposition through partnership with finance, risk, merchant services, product, technology, and others.
Lead strategic selling in alignment with compliance and internal partner business requirements.
Partner with sales leaders across various sales and account management segments to implement multi-market payment solutions.
Lead strategic selling in alignment with compliance and internal partner business requirements.
Develop and execute a growth strategy, adapting plans and priorities to address resource/operational requirements.
Achieve new competitive sales CV targets and business quota results.
Make decisions and resolve issues based upon policies, procedures, and business plan.
Partner with peers and senior leaders across GCS to drive engagement, retention, and long-term profitability.
Qualifications:
Deep knowledge and experience selling in the corporate payments industry including T/E and supplier payments solutions.
Experience selling Enterprise level solutions into Fortune 500 companies with long, complex decision-making process.
Effective in collaborating with other business units to accomplish outcomes that are in the company’s overall best interest
Familiarity with card payments complexities in global engagements that involve different needs across multiple regions and countries
Networked in the payments industry across multiple industry groups including travel and procurement
10 Years of business development experience in a sales environment with a proven track record of driving results.
Advanced analytical skills to bring concepts to life through data.
Proven track record in Fintech and/or B2B sales negotiations, leadership and closing skills with Fortune 500 companies.
Hunter mentality, with deep knowledge of competitive landscape
Thorough knowledge of successful consultative selling techniques within Procurement, Treasury and Finance related to supplier payments.
Extensive experience with complex sales planning and execution.
Strong financial acumen.
Leverages lead sources to identify opportunities and proactively schedule warm account review appointments with prospects
Uses appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to gain acceptance for products and/ or services
Knowledge of Fintech value propositions, product lines and technology.
Exceptional thought leadership, strategic thinking skills and project management aptitude.
Outstanding presentation and negotiation skills and ability to interface and influence at the most senior levels.
Ability to travel as required.
Bachelor’s Degree required

Salary Range: $115,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually sales incentive equity (if applicable) benefits
