General Summary:
The Director, Strategy & Planning is responsible for leading and delivering strategic and large-scale digital transformation of our Total Leave and Disability solutions with the goal of achieving a superior experience for customer and operational effectiveness.
This Director, Strategy & Planning will provide input into strategic decisions while also leading the execution of digital change. This role will ensure that solutions being considered align with the strategic direction of the company and are of high quality and will result in a significant financial ROI for the assigned functional area.
The Director, Strategy & Planning requires extensive technology, analytical, leadership and business knowledge to effectively transform the business.
This is a hybrid position located in Portland, ME, Chattanooga TN, or Atlanta, GA.
Job Specifications
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent relevant business experience. Master's degree is a plus.8+ years of experience delivering value to customers through problem solving, analytics, and/or digital assets, or equivalent relevant experience. Strategic consulting firm experience is a plus.Demonstrated background working with leave of absence and/or disability solutions.Experience in scaled agile or background in Product Management, IT delivery and Transformation preferred.Ability to collaborate and build credibility across multiple lines of business functions regardless of reporting relationship.Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, with experience in creating executive level presentationsAbility to operate in the gray and structure ambiguityDemonstrated record of successful project managementA keen eye for detail and creativityExceptional time management skills with the ability to work well under pressure and multi-task efficiently to meet deadlinesDemonstrated ability to work as part of a team as well as to effectively lead and influence others without formal authorityAbility and desire to learn and apply new things in a creative, positive manner and attitudeAbility to navigate complex and sensitive situations and maintain confidentiality of information.Proficient experience using Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel to create executive-level presentations and reports.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Develop, oversee, and drive implementation of a robust portfolio governance process ensuring alignment of the portfolio to deliver significant business value.Analyze portfolio on an ongoing basis to ensure that work aligns with strategic goals of businessCoordinate with key governance bodies across the enterprise to ensure a cohesive approach and transparency of outcomesConsistently evaluate and manage initiative results by monitoring progress towards meeting goals and achieving implementation/performance benchmarks, ensuring follow-through on the part of key players, and sustaining momentum needed to drive these initiativesHelp to prepare and facilitate regular governance meetingsMay help to define and report on metrics regarding the performance of the portfolio from both a business and IT delivery perspectiveFoster close partnerships with key partners to identify issues requiring resolution/escalation; helping to negotiate and resolve conflicts and manage the prioritization of trade-offsPartner with colleagues to advise executive leadership team(s) on governance structure and outcomesSupport Product Management and Technology change team to ensure common visions and strategic alignment to our Key Performance Indicators.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$89,900.00-$161,800.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
