  Description and Requirements

  Role Value Proposition :

  Credit Risk Management (“CRM”), an independent review function within MetLife’s Investment Risk Management team, is seeking a Director, Real Estate and Structured Finance to support the oversight of its credit risks generated by its investment portfolios. MetLife Investments manages a global portfolio of fixed income, real estate, equity, and alternative asset investments. CRM is responsible for developing and reporting limits, capital modeling, governance, and board reporting of assets with credit risk, as well as reviewing and approving impairments and stress testing.

  This position is part of a team thatevaluates, and monitors credit risks associated with MetLife’s Real Estate and Structured Finance portfolios, including scenario analysis, identifying emerging trends/concentrations, monitoring, and reporting significant changes in credit quality, and analyzing how long-term sector trends and events could impact our portfolios. This position reports to MetLife’s Head of Real Estate and Structured Finance Credit Risk Management and strong candidates will be able to demonstrate solid quantitative and qualitative credit skills that span across real estate and structured products (e.g., CMBS, RMBS, residential whole loans, CLOs, ABS, commercial mortgage loans, agriculture loans, and real estate equity).

  Key Responsibilities:

  Monitor trends and risks across the Commercial Real Estate and Agricultural Finance and Structured Finance portfolios arising from capital markets, underlying collateral, structural changes, regulations, etc.

  Work closely with MetLife’s asset managers, model risk management and other teams to ensure coordination and understanding of modeling approaches and results obtained.

  Review quarterly portfolio reviews of the various asset classes and synthesize MIM reporting, sector research and economic news and developments into a coherent view of the sector.

  Review model inputs, assumptions, interpret and communicate credit model and economic capital results and other indicators to senior management. Model commercial mortgage base and stress losses in Trepp DM.

  Monitor General Account holdings for signs of credit deterioration or risk of loss. Make suggestions for additions and deletions to the Watch List.

  Work with Credit Risk Analytics, Credit Limit Monitoring and Reporting, and business partners to design and implement appropriate analytic tools, stress scenarios, and risk reports to effectively monitor investment risks, enhance decision making, and communicate risk positions / emerging trends.

  Improve approaches to evaluating risk, ask critical questions and ensure transparency and quality of processes, data, assumptions, and results.

  Evaluate limit structures with respect to the General Account and requests to exceed established limits; participate in the recommendation process whether to approve.

  Ensure compliance with relevant policies and recommend improvements, as appropriate.

  Attend business and portfolios reviews; communicate emerging risks and concentrations to the CRM leadership team and to senior management.

  Review the underlying methodologies and stress testing results for quarterly CECL and impairment calculations.

  Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  Required:

  7-10 years of experience of relevant work experience in increasingly important roles at a top tier financial institution.

  Minimum of 5 years in a credit analysis or risk management capacity covering commercial real estate and/or structured products (e.g., CMBS, RMBS, CLOs, ABS, etc.).

  Familiarity in assessing models and model outputs for portfolio management of real estate credit and/or structured products.

  Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain complex models and interface successfully within all levels of a large organization.

  Ability to work successfully in a team environment.

  Strong initiative and ability to work independently and exercise good judgement.

  Strong knowledge of Excel modeling.

  Preferred:

  Undergraduate degree required in finance, economics, math, or another quantitative field. MBA or other advanced degree a plus.

  Familiarity with the various information models and systems used for structured products and commercial real estate (e.g. BBG, SPEAR, Trepp, CMM, Intex, etc.) a plus

  The wage range for applicants for this position is $123800 to $165000. This role is also eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. MetLife offers a comprehensive benefits program, including healthcare benefits, life insurance, retirement benefits, parental leave, legal plan services and paid time off. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
