UnitedHealth Group (UHG) Real Estate is an important partner to support Optum RX's mission, and the Director of Real Estate Pharmacy Facilities & Sterile Environment, within the Real Estate Delivery Center of Excellence, will be accountable to collaborate with these Optum RX business partners & clinical/compliance stakeholders, OptumHealth clinical and compliance partners, along with other Optum and Real Estate/Corporate Services partnerships and teams, to provide expert operational resiliency and compliance risk-based facilities design & engineering solutions to support this platform's strategic objectives.
The Director will be accountable to provide facilities design, project & engineering technical subject matter expertise to our high performing and expanding pharmaceutical business.
Primary Responsibilities:
Governance over the development and implementation of sterile environment (clean room/compounding) facilities design and engineering & operations standards and specifications, including mechanical & electrical. The role will identify ways for a more holistic and integrated role of Real Estate in support of Optum RX's operational needs Additionally, this role will provide consultative subject matter expertise in specific project planning, design, construction & on-going maintenance of sterile environments for UHG, designing and managing key performance measures to gauge outcomes and measure risk. This is in partnership with Real Estate architect & engineer (A&E) and service delivery partners accountable for this space. Simply put, understand the regulatory environment and industry best practices, combined with the needs of the Optum RX business, and translate that to measurable outcomes for the Real Estate delivery teams (design, project and facilities management/engineering) and supporting third parties This role will be the custodian of the Real Estate pharmacy infrastructure and operations downtime risk model, incapsulating all accountabilities of Real Estate into a site-by-site relative measure of current and planned state; this tool, in its early versioning, is intended to guide program and investment decisions and associated business case formulations The role will be a key contributor to Real Estate capital planning process, helping to ensure the accurate representation of planned need in the capital project forecast period The role should consider Real Estate Customer Relationship Management team members as its core customer interface, although by the very nature of the role's scope, regular Optum RX customer contact should be expected (i.e., supporting meetings from a technical perspective). The role must have superior communications skills at an executive level The role also will be a collaborator for other Real Estate pharmaceutical-focused project activity (fulfilment operations, specialty distribution etc) - support the definition of measurable project scope schedule & budget outcomes and acting as a subject matter expert including facilities engineering & operations preventative maintenance and related KPIs/standards; note that Real Estate provides building infrastructure expertise to the Optum RX fulfilment automation equipment engineering teams, who are accountable for the fulfilment line operation itself The role should be comfortable in representing facilities design, project management and maintenance/engineering on behalf of Real Estate, to our Optum RX customer. This is consistent with our belief in End-to-End integrated solutions that speak to Total Cost of Ownership and life cycle investment strategies

Required Qualifications:
10+ years of complex pharmaceutical facilities engineering design, projects and/or facilities maintenance experience, at scale (ideally national footprint) Demonstrated sterile environment experience Proven thorough understanding of the pharmaceutical operations space, with solid current knowledge of USP 797 and ISO Clean Room classifications standards and implementation strategies, and other standards as applicable. (Example operating environments include home delivery & specialty distribution, ambulatory infusion & compounding/clean room/sterile environments) Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships. Solid interpersonal and communication skills at all levels of the organization Demonstrated ability to take complex analysis, summarize at an executive level, and make sound, data driven recommendations Ability to recommend from a facility design perspective scalable, programmatic solutions aligned to business needs, with a focus on driving lower cost of delivery, quicker schedule execution, reduced operational downtime risk and maintenance reliability & predictability Ability to be flexible, think creatively and possess a solid problem-solving ability Proven solid financial analysis skills to drive disciplined fact-based decisions Experience working in a dynamic and matrix-oriented environment Ability to deliver transparent & measurable results through best practices and consistent service delivery - schedule, budget and quality drivers Ability to operate in a high expectation, fast-paced, dynamic, multi-dimensional, often-ambiguous delivery environment to drive outcomes, meeting or exceeding our customers and patient's needs Ability to evaluate risk through a Six Sigma Failure Modes and Evaluation and Effects Analysis (FMEA) mindset Solid demonstrated culture from references, aligned around Integrity, Compassion, Relationships, Inclusion, Innovation and Performance - UHG's Values
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional registration credentials in mechanical or electrical engineering Membership in a relevant industry professional development/advocacy/best practices group (i.e.: IFMA)
California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $122,100 to $234,700 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
