Our Strategy and Business Excellence (S&BE) team develops and deploys the Global Product Development and Supply strategy, driving connectivity between the broader enterprise. The organization provides standard capabilities across strategy, digital, operational excellence, risk management, business development, and others. The Operational Excellence and Learning team within S&BE drives the definition and adoption of Global Product Development and Supply approach and leads continuous improvement. Position Summary
The Director, Operational Excellence will be responsible for the facilitation of the strategic deployment policy (Hoshin Kanri) events across Global Product Development and Supply (GPS) organization in collaboration with the Strategy and Business Intelligence (SBI) and strategic capabilities & performance management teams. This role will also be responsible for coaching others to learn and apply Hoshin Kanri tools and methodology.
The Director, Operational Excellence (OpEx), Hoshin Kanri (HK) Deployment Lead plays a pivotal role in embedding the principles and capabilities of Operational Excellence (OpEx) to ensure efficiency, accountability and transparency across all levels of the GPS organization. This includes the implementation of sustainable process improvement as well as tracking and measuring results.
Key Responsibilities:
Actively deploy and coach the organization on Hoshin Kanri /strategic policy deployment and tools leading to the identification of breakthrough actions
Partner with other functions, operating units and site based OpEx teams to ensure alignment of objectives between these groups and the central GPS OpEx group through catchball session
Provide teaching and coaching to transfer Hoshin Kanri knowledge and skills into the organization
Participate as a member of the central OpEx team to help develop and build OpEx capability across GPS through course development, training and coaching
Assure adequate training and coaching practices are in place to equip employees within the GPS central OpEx team to facilitate strategy deployment events
Support process management by applying Plan-Do-Check-Act (PCDA)
Create and update standard playbooks
Build, maintain and leverage relationships across the matrix to identify opportunities for process improvement and facilitate the implementation and continuous monitoring of processes and staying up to date on developments in process improvement methodologies and best practices
Deliver step-change performance improvement through the execution of Hoshin Kanri improvement priorities and action planning.
Act as a change agent for Hoshin Kanri adoption and champion change management practices to ensure sustainable continuous process improvement
Execute high business value Lean Six Sigma projects
Actively monitor and report Hoshin Kanri improvement priorities working in collaboration with the performance center of excellence (PCOE) team
Up to 30% travel (Domestic and International)
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific related discipline required; MBA or advanced scientific degree preferred
12+ years’ experience in delivering measurable results in strategy policy deployment and process improvement
Demonstrated experience with Hoshin Kanri/strategy policy deployment
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher
Direct experience leading and supporting operational excellence transformations and strategy deployment in a pharmaceutical or a related regulated industry
Additional Skills/Knowledge Required:
Demonstrated passion for excellence
Ability to interact with and coach all levels of the business
Experience with facilitating workshops and leading teams
Proven experience in applying consultative skills to drive organizations to think, behave and apply Hoshin Kanri methodology and tools
Results-oriented with the ability to lead multiple initiatives at a time
Solid business acumen
Must possess a strategic perspective, leading vision and values, global acumen, and leadership disposition
Excellent change management facilitation skills as well as strong leadership skills
Demonstrated initiative, creativity, strategic capabilities, and ability to work effectively in complex, rapidly changing environments
Must be skilled in strategic thinking, managing through systems, innovation management, and negotiation
Must possess strong verbal and communication skills, and a well–developed ability to constructively work across functional areas and levels to achieve results
