  Description of Duties:

  The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) in Syracuse, NY, invites applications for a full-time Senior Staff Associate (Director of Student Success and Engagement). The Director is a key position within the Division of Student Affairs, providing leadership and direction to all aspects and programming efforts of the Office of Student Success and Engagement, including direct supervision of three full-time staff members. The Director will provide strategic direction with a focus on best practices and continuous improvement regarding student engagement, campus programming, new student orientation, leadership development, student clubs and organizations, and academic success initiatives. The Director reports to the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs. Occasional evening and weekend work is required.

  Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited, to:

  General Responsibilities:

  Assist with major College events to include new student orientation, Family Weekend, Admissions events and activities, Commencement, ESF 132, and others as needed.

  Actively participate in staff meetings and retreats, and Student Affairs programs.

  Support ongoing communication with parents and families of ESF students.

  Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate three full-time staff members:

  Academic Success Coordinator

  Campus Programming and Community Service Coordinator

  Leadership Development and Student Organization Coordinator

  Directing Student Engagement and Campus Programming:

  Assess effectiveness and expanding existing programs that support student success, improve and enhance the student experience and retention, and explore opportunities to develop new student-centered programs that are responsive to campus needs.

  Aligning the Office of Student Success and Engagement with best practices for the development of programs specifically aimed at cultural diversity, leadership, alcohol/drug awareness, and wellness.

  Oversee annual and on-going training experiences of Registered Student Organizations, including all aspects of transition planning, annual reports, and community service/engagement hours tracking. Provide strategic leadership for August and January Orientation programs for first-year and transfer students.

  Assist in the design and implementation of activities and initiatives supporting an institutionally coordinated new student experience. This includes the oversight and development of existing and new programs with a focus on academic success initiatives.

  Coordinate extended orientation Student Affairs/student life class presentations to all academic department 132 classes.

  Student Academic Success Center Management and Operations:

  Oversee the ESF peer tutoring program, and provide support for hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating qualified tutors.

  Provide support and communication to the Academic Success Coordinator on service utilization, student concerns, trends, and crises.

  Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of strategic plans for improving first-year retention and time-to-degree that is informed by research and best practices.

  Collaborate with academic support services offices and associated working groups to assess retention, student academic progress, and social integration, and assist in students' transition to the ESF experience.

  Job Requirements:

  Required Qualifications:

  Master's degree in related field (higher education, student affairs or similar)

  3 years' related experience in a college or university setting

  Experience with cross-cultural competencies, including strong emotional intelligence, and the ability to engage and build relationships with College constituencies and marginalized/underrepresented communities

  Cultural competence and ability to work sensitively with a diverse student body

  Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks with initiative and flexibility

  Highly developed verbal and written communication skills

  Ability to work autonomously and as a team member within a collegial setting

  Preferred Qualifications:

  5 or more years' related experience in a college or university setting

  Additional Information:

  In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act" institutions of higher education are required to prepare an annual report containing information on campus security policies and campus statistics. This report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on-campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by SUNY-ESF; and on property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies concerning sexual assault, and other matters.
