Microsoft Tax & Customs Department is responsible for Worldwide Tax & Customs Reporting, Compliance, and Planning, including the technology and process & innovation functions to support the coordination of the worldwide tax and Customs functions. There are four major functions within the Tax and Customs Department. 1) Tax Reporting and Transfer Pricing 2) Customs, Tax Process & Innovation, 3) Corporate Tax Planning & Controversies, Indirect Tax & Global Business Initiatives 4) Tax & Customs Controllership, Policy and Benefits Taxation. We are hiring for a Director of International Income Tax Reporting.
Responsibilities
Manage aspects of Base Erosion and Profit Shifting BEPS Pillar Two process, provision, and compliance
Oversight of United States (U.S.) Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP) and support for statutory income tax accounting positions for non-U.S. subsidiaries including deferred tax accounting, income tax payable accounting, tax account rollforward, FIN48/IFRIC 23 (International Financial Reporting Interpretations Committee), return-to-provision true-up, and effective tax rate. Provide guidance and technical support under U.S. GAAP and local accounting standards
Collaborate with the broader tax and finance teams to ensure proper reporting of complex issues such as cross border transactions and other tactical matters impacting income tax accounting
Develop and own processes to ensure a smooth connection among local controllers, finance, tax compliance and tax provision functions, identifying key areas for simplification and automation
Provide accountability for maintenance and compliance of key Sarbanes-Oxley controls related to tax accounting
Ensure changes to tax legislation, SEC regulations, U.S. GAAP, and global legislative developments, are properly analyzed and accounted for
Oversee aspects of the tax reporting and compliance life cycle
Manage team workload, deadlines, and responsibilities
Leverages the unique skillsets of the individuals on the team to maximize efficiency while continuing to develop and grow team capability
Deliver success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring
Qualifications
Required qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, or related field AND 12+ years of direct and indirect tax compliance, tax returns, tax accounting, or tax audit management experience or equivalent experience
OR Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or related field AND 12+ years of direct and indirect tax compliance, tax returns, tax accounting, or tax audit management experience
OR equivalent experience.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience with (Accounting Standards and Codification) ASC740 and International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS)
Experience with US and international corporate income tax
Database and desktop application ability (specifically SAP and Microsoft Office)
Project management skills
CPA certification
Previous experience in corporate tax department
Previous experience in Big 4 corporate tax practices
Tax M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $292,200 per year.
