  Minimum qualifications:

  Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

  15 years of experience working on policy issues for companies or within government, think tanks, public interest groups or relevant industry associations.

  Experience working on public policy issues in the technology industry, in particular as an advisor and partner to business teams in product development, go-to-market, and other business areas.

  Preferred qualifications:

  Experience working with or for regulated industries, business strategy consultancies, or the technology industry.

  Experience working with international teams and a variety of stakeholders and in building and executing strategies to deliver exceptional solutions.

  Ability to lead and evaluate issues independently in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated experience successfully managing a team.

  Excellent personal, political, analytical, and communications skills and high attention to detail.

  The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team works directly with the Google Search product area to advise on public policy issues. We are experts on Google’s outlook for key products and work closely with product and business teams to minimize risk and increase opportunity for success and growth. Our team's mission is to help Google, governments, and civil society responsibly navigate social, political, and economic issues.

  As Director, you will be responsible for advising product and engineering teams for Search products through the public policy lens, designing forward looking government and public affairs strategies to support our product roadmaps, coordinating with the global policy team and key cross-functional partners to drive our strategy, and developing our external narrative around key policy challenges. You will organize, manage, and communicate about critical plans, initiatives, and strategy.

  In this role, you will utilize analytical and organizational skills, the ability to communicate effectively in person and writing, an aptitude for learning, an ability to develop and implement creative ideas, and the discipline to manage competing projects with tight deadlines.You will be a Government Affairs and Public Policy professional with experience in the field, able to grasp complex technical and policy issues, and passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone.

  Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

  The US base salary range for this full-time position is $249,000-$366,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   Engage directly with policymakers and key opinion formers to shape public and political dialogue.

  Develop and lead public policy strategy for Google’s Search products and businesses, including working with cross-functional teams to design Google’s policy positions and strategies to support our global business objectives, and drive favorable policy and regulatory outcomes.

  Empower and guide team to accomplish their goals in an open, collaborative, inclusive and effective manner. Provide strategic policy advice to senior Search leadership to inform our product and business strategy.

  Build and manage a network of key senior stakeholder and influencer relationships to help shape a positive policy and regulatory environment.

  Direct policy projects on a host of issues affecting the industry, including data privacy, controversial content, competition and cross-industry relations.
