PRINCIPLE OBJECTIVE:
The Director of Global Product Development is responsible for leading growth and driving innovation across a diverse range of categories and La Mer strategic pillars. A dynamic role - will help deliver breakthrough creativity, superior quality and high-performance results working with multi-disciplinary functions to shape and strengthen the brand's luxury position and brand equity. To direct all facets of new development from concept to launch in alignment with critical timelines, process protocols and elevated standards while also ensuring optimal maintenance of products through life cycle. Strong technical, communication and management skills in skincare and makeup required, with global experience preferred.
BROADER RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS:
• Support product innovation and execution across treatment and color categories in alignment with brand strategy objectives
• Drive development in partnership with program leads, adhering to established timelines while ensuring optimal quality
• Evaluate and provide recommended technical direction across product forms and categories
• Oversee communication to R&D teams across disciplines (formulation, fragrance, testing, etc.) to move innovation forward with precision and agility
• Conduct on-site development work at laboratory level, leveraging strong skillset with base and active compositional elements - translating to pilot and production levels with on-site travel to global in-house and partner facilities for approvals as needed
• Inspire new ideation and drive creativity, providing new product conceptualization in assigned categories to ignite growth
• Translate consumer, competitive and industry trends, applying knowledge to fuel new and unique La Mer innovation - reporting with presentation of recommended potential actions for La Mer
• Leverage strong understanding of luxury market to build unique, multi-faceted experiences and reasons to believe
• Attend beauty and cross-industry events, including trend/trade shows and key conferences
• Apply expert formula knowledge to build distinct, high-performance luxury textures that deliver high performance benefits
• Recommend new ingredient, testing, claims and storytelling opportunities, executing with internal and external partners across regions, with superior relevancy
• Ensure superior formula quality, setting and maintaining standards for new developments and reformulations

FUNCTION-SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Drive assigned calendarized launches in all stages from concept to on-counter, reporting to Vice President
• Inspire creation of new product concepts that leverage relevant Global insights, analytics, and trends to create newness that fits strategic growth priorities
• Oversee evaluation of submissions on a timely basis and provide written direction to R&D partners on next steps / re-directs / trouble-shoot issues
• Initiate and actively participate in creative ideation meetings for new products, storytelling and claims
• Partner with Global teams across functions to ensure optimal relevancy and compliance (Regulatory + Legal partnership)
• Lead production of PD product fact sheets and profiles to capture all development needs including texture, product technologies, positioning, testing requirements and claims
• Prepare dynamic product presentations/speeches that capture key elements of La Mer innovation - Storytelling, sensoriality, and performance, for internal and external audiences
• Drive planning and execution of all testing and claims support needs. This includes sensory, clinical and biological testing as well as documentation of key formula facts as required
• Champion collaboration with Marketing, Packaging and R&D aiding in each step of the development process
• Monitor trends both inside the beauty industry, and outside the beauty industry; attend trade shows & trend presentations and report on findings + recommend La Mer applications
• Travel to ELC and supplier plants for on-site approvals as needed
• Maintain weekly status report and keep team management informed of project details
• Work closely with the following departments:
Marketing
• Serve as lead for assigned programs and provide status + recommended next steps in critical cross functional meetings both in person and via Zoom / Teams
• Provide daily, detailed communication on changes / updates to products (formula cost, timing etc.) using La Mer portals and via written communication
• Initiate and participate in collaborative meetings (program kickoff, working meetings, etc.)
R&D
• Initiate development with R&D; Prepare and issue Technical Profiles and lead kickoff for assigned programs, outlining development requirements for concept / positioning, key claims, aesthetic & ingredient direction, packaging direction, and bulk cost guidance
• Direct bench work according to aligned objectives. Gather submission feedback from PD team and communicate detailed, timely redirect in writing to R&D
• Communicate all recommended textural changes, ingredient / technology updates etc on formula development on a timely basis
• Oversee all product testing with Sensory, Clinical and Research teams to create a comprehensive testing plan with detailed follow-through. Analyze results and create claims opportunities for the brand, translating all consumer facing messages with Legal and Regulatory partners for approval
• Coordinate and track pre-launch sample requirements
Packaging & Package Design:
Working with Vice President, ideate and drive innovative, luxury packaging experiences that ensure optimal product quality and unique engagement. Communicate key formula parameters and limitations that impact package direction (viscosity, light stability, etc.) Develop unique application innovations that work synergistically with formula
Trouble-shoot potential packaging issues & brainstorm resolution
Request and coordinate any components needed for in house testing or sampling
Creative Education, PR:
• Provide clear communication of product story, texture, ingredients, and claims to drive creative execution and external communication. Partner as needed to address questions or needed information
• Lead development of press presentations in partnership with teams
• Review all Education / PR documents for accuracy of storytelling and claims
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Undergraduate College degree, with Science or Product Development degree preferred
• Minimum 8 years relevant experience with strong skincare and makeup background

• Strong technical skillset in tactile/aesthetic evaluation of cosmetic products as well as the ability to communicate product direction and formulation objectives, including shade matching of complexion products
• Global experience working with North America, LATAM, EMEA, APAC, China and Travel Retail
• Highly flexible and adaptable to handle ever changing priorities
• Ability to travel, domestically and internationally to support development needs
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $117,000 to $202,100. Exact salary depends on severalfactors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a
highly competitive bonus program with possibility for overachievement based on performance
and company results as well as participation in the share incentive plan.
