The Director, Cyber Architecture is responsible for leading a team of senior architects and distinguished engineers responsible for delivering secure technology solutions for the Information security organization and the enterprise. The person in this role works with stakeholders across the enterprise to enable the secure operation of our technology infrastructure and is fluent in technology for cloud and product security.
What You Will do:
Understand current as well as emerging security threats. Identify appropriate technology capabilities, skills and measures needed to mitigate threats.
Identify complex technology problems with sufficient clarity to define objectives and key results needed to address. Proactively identify areas of risk, and drive transformative actions. Work across teams and organizational boundaries.
Develop and lead opportunities to produce well-managed solutions that solve complex cybersecurity challenges.
Work as a subject matter expert who can dive deep as necessary. Effectively apply technical architecture/product knowledge to develop new patterns and solution architectures.
Lead a team of senior technical professionals, in a dynamic environment to deliver effective cybersecurity technology outcomes.
Perform technical review and oversight of domain and system architectures. Lead the team through completion of architecture documentation and processes.
Assist delivery team leaders in scoping and planning the execution for large, complex programs responsible for the delivery of new technology capabilities.
Communicate technical ideas and concepts clearly, verbally and written, to technical and non-technical audiences, especially articulating technical vision to executive levels.
Provide well grounded and actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
Influence the development and adoption of enterprise technology standards and architecture.
Question assumptions, challenge beliefs, illuminate pitfalls, and foster a shared understanding across the engineering community.
Promote engineering excellence and drive the adoption of best practices.
Participate in the interview process and efforts to hire top talent.
Mentor and develop technical talent and contribute to an environment of high performance and customer satisfaction.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
At least 5 years of people management experience
At least 7 years of technology experience
At least 3 years of experience with cloud infrastructure services
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of experience in AWS cloud security services
4+ years of security consulting experience
5+ years of cyber technical experience
3+ years of experience with financial service compliance regulations
5+ years of experience with diagramming domain level and system architectures
Master’s degree
CISSP or SANS certifications
Cloud computing certification
5+ years of experience designing and implementing enterprise grade security solutions based on open source projects
3+ years of experience designing fully automated security solutions within a fully DevOps enterprise
3+ years of experience defining strategy for security organizations in cross functional and matrixed enterprises

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $274,800 - $313,600 for Director, Solution Arch
San Francisco, California (Hybrid On-Site): $291,100 - $332,300 for Director, Solution Arch
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
