GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Director, ABL Underwriting works with primary responsibility for leading teams through the underwriting process for asset-based transactions at Fifth Third Bank. The team will be primarily comprised of existing ABL professionals within Fifth Third. The ABL team will be responsible for pitching, structuring, and executing ABL solutions across the entire Fifth Third Commercial Bank platform. The Director is a strategic leader and will play a key role in appropriately and effectively positioning Fifth Third's personnel, capabilities and expertise to develop and up tier the firm's relationships with both existing and new ABL clients. Transaction structures will include conventional asset-based lending products.
Focused on all aspects of underwriting and deal execution including structuring, deal screening, credit review, loan approval preparation and presentation to credit teams, risk management, funding, operations and loan documentation.

While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The team will be responsible for pitching, structuring, and executing ABL transactions to targeted Fifth Third clients.
Responsible for carrying out day-to-day coverage, origination support, and transaction management responsibilities for existing and prospective clients including covered Sponsors.
Manages and prioritizes a pipeline of ABL financing opportunities.
Performs loan structuring, underwriting due diligence and prepares presentation materials of credit for approval.
Establishes strong working partnerships and routines with key internal partners including loan operations, treasury, and portfolio management.
Manages third party relationships with attorneys, appraisers, field examiners, consultants and investment bankers.
Leverages extensive knowledge of asset-based lending and capital markets activity to provide guidance on and effectively work with internal and external constituents to identify and recommend solutions to underwriting and business issues through timely and effective communication.
Understands and complies with all Bank policies and procedures, and federal and state laws and regulations pertinent to this position; stays informed and shares updates on changes with management. Required to successfully complete all required compliance training.
SUPERVISORY RESPONIBILITIES:
May include direct or indirect supervision and direction of the day-to-day activities of junior ABL professionals.
Provide employees and key internal partners with timely, candid, and constructive performance feedback.
Develop employees to fullest potential and provide challenging opportunities that enhance career growth.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree required (MBA a plus), ideally with concentration in Business, Finance or Accounting.
8+ years credit analysis and/or loan review or underwriting experience in Commercial Banking.
5+ years Asset-Based Lending, Private Equity, Investment Banking, or related financial services.
Extensive knowledge of asset-based lending, private equity, capital markets, merger and acquisition structures, and experience with credit analysis is required.
Thorough knowledge of credit policies, procedures, and terminology.
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
Demonstrable success originating and executing complex financial transactions.
Advanced analytical skills (including financial and collateral analysis), critical thinking and verbal and written communication skills.
Professional presence (client-facing).
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate knowledge of Word and Excel spreadsheet software. Proficient with technology and ability to learn new applications including commercial loan administration systems.
