About the role:
As a Data Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on two assignments based in two separate locations: first year in Barcelona (Spain) and the second year in Toronto (Canada).
*Note: this role is a VIE opportunity and is only available to European citizens due to external regulations.
Main responsibilities as Data Engineer:
Apply expertise in data engineering to design, develop, and implement robust data solutions while collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand intricate data requirements
Leverage modern data engineering tools to design, develop, and optimize data pipelines and data sets to ensure efficient data ingestion, transformation, delivery of data
Gain proficiency in data integration technologies and ETL (extract, transform and load)/ELT processes. Implement tasks related to the life-cycle management of deployed data assets, including monitoring and troubleshooting
Work closely with cloud technologies, with a focus on AWS, to support the development and maintenance of modern cloud-native data platforms
Use data analysis, visualization, storytelling, and data technologies to scope, define and deliver data products helping AI-teams to create efficient models
Work closely with cross-functional agile teams to contribute to the design and implementation of hybrid-cloud solutions with automated data pipelines
Explore and develop foundational knowledge in data warehouse/lake solutions, data mesh architectures, and distributed processing technologies
Build proficiency in SQL and relational/non-relational databases. Utilize programming languages such as Python, Shell scripting, and Scala/Java to optimize data engineering solutions
Actively participate in the data engineering community, sharing insights, best practices, and innovative ideas to contribute to the growth of the industry
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team culture
About You:
Master's Degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline
Strong knowledge and experience in data engineering concepts, ETL/ELT processes, and modern data engineering tools
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Shell scripting, and Scala/Java and familiarity with database systems, including SQL and NoSQL
Knowledge of cloud and high-performance computer environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, Databricks, Apache Spark)
Understanding of Agile concepts and principles, with the ability to work in a fast-paced agile environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts
Business analysis, data visualization, and data storytelling skills
Proficient in English; proficiency in Spanish would only be a plus
Nice to have:
Experience in production-ready software development
Experience with DataOps (CI/CD)
Knowledge of Tableau, Power BI, Plotly or similar
Experience in life sciences and healthcare
Experience in a complex global organization
