The Washington Post is looking for a skilled leader to serve as deputy politics editor, a new role in which they will help guide the National politics staff in executing the most ambitious political coverage in the nation.
This editor, who will serve as the principal deputy to the senior politics editor, will help oversee the politics staff and assist in shaping coverage of the 2024 campaign, the White House, Congress and state politics. Together with the senior politics editor, this editor will be responsible for ensuring the excellence of the daily political report and mobilizing resources for major stories, as well as managing staffing needs. This job requires proven editorial judgment, a high metabolism and a sophisticated understanding of the people, issues and forces shaping American politics.
We are seeking a seasoned editor with experience running political coverage who brings a high-elevation approach to stories and framing lines of coverage. The ideal candidate will be an experienced manager who excels at developing talent and helping journalists shine and is committed to a supportive and inclusive work environment. This editor must be an excellent communicator with superb organizational skills who understands how to promote collaboration in a large newsroom and has a track record of bringing together different teams in pursuit of a shared goal.
This position is based in our Washington newsroom.
