About the Role

　　200! This is the number of experimental data generated every single day in the Pharmacokinetic Sciences (PKS) department at Novartis Biomedical Research on drug discovery projects. We need you to extract knowledge out of these data and help bringing drugs to our patients.

　　As a Data Science expert, you will join our Modeling & Simulation Data Science team in the Translational Medicine Unit and help us to unleash the power of data science for drug discovery. You will bring your curious, innovative, and collaborative mindset to make the best use of the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) data generated within our department and use state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) methods and statistical techniques to accelerate drug design.

　　Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

　　• Use statistical techniques and ML models to generate predictions and insights related to compound data.

　　• Play a key role in the development of technical tools (packages, applications, workflows, etc.) that enable drug discovery teams to interact with our ML models and data analysis results.

　　• Integrate software development standard processes into our data processing and machine learning workflows (e.g., MLops, model tracking, code and data versioning)

　　• Enable and strengthen the use of the platforms offered by our Research Informatics department.

　　• Leverage technical and scientific information from a variety of sources to effectively enable data analysis and scientific interpretation.

　　• Contribute to enabling the uptake of tools through training and documentation and end-user iteration.

　　• Deliver clear and concise presentations for audiences with different expertise.

　　Role Requirements

　　• Advanced degree in a quantitative field with some life sciences experience, e.g. data science, computer science, (biomedical) engineering, machine learning, bioinformatics/cheminformatics

　　• PhD with 2+ years or MSc with 6+ years of relevant work experience. Expert knowledge of Python, including source code management and containerization, with experience in developing computational data analysis pipelines

　　• Depth of knowledge in software development standard processes (virtual environments, versioning, code review etc.) and MLops

　　• Relevant experience with ML / deep learning algorithms, and strong understanding of statistics

　　• Experience in developing and deploying web-based applications (e.g. R-Shiny, streamlit) and RESTful APIs

　　• Excellent communication skills and ability to translate analytical concepts for diverse audience and stakeholders (English is our primary language)

　　• Previous research experience either in academia or industry; Demonstrated knowledge of data visualization and exploratory analysis. Expertise in ADME/PK is a plus
