Data Engineer (remote)
Job Description
Join our team as a Data Engineer and become an integral part of the Data Function at SUSE. You will play a key role in bringing our Data Strategy to life and moving SUSE step closer to become a Data Driven organization.
You will work closely with Data Architect, Data Engineering TPO and other Data Engineers on development of new Data Architecture.
Critical to achieving excellent results will be hands-on experience with AWS services (Glue, Redshift, S3, Lambda and Airflow), having great knowledge of ETL processing and of data integration principles. SQL and Python should be your native language.
This role sits within the Data Engineering team, reporting into the Data Engineering TPO who is Czech republic based.
Focus AreasCollaborate closely with Data Architect and Data Engineering TPO to deliver new data architecture supporting SUSE Data Strategy.Influence decisions about direction of the Data Architecture.Analyze requirements as well as suggested solutions and translate them into smaller increments, which can be delivered in iterative and agile fashion.Actively participate in the development of Data Architecture.Clearly communicate development increments to the Data Engineering TPO and the rest of the team to ensure that the work is accepted and well understood.Guide and inspire more junior developers.Create and maintain technical documentation.Validate and unit test results of the development.Proactively seek for improvements and drive their execution.Challenge decisions and provide alternatives.Ensure that created solutions are well designed - provide code review to more junior engineers and approve their commits.Drive enablement - make sure that created solutions are well communicated and their adoption has been successful, hence the solution becomes fully operational.Preferred Experience & Skills3+ years of experience in data engineering (ETL processing, Data Integration, Data Warehousing) with a focus on cloud-based software solutions.Advanced knowledge of cloud-based (AWS) infrastructure architectures and application portfolios (Glue, Redshift, S3 and Lambda)Advanced knowledge of Apache Airflow - ability to create DAGs E2E using best practices.Good understanding of well designed data warehouse architecture and ability to apply it on specific use cases.Working knowledge of Data Integration - being able to Extract data from various sources (DBs, APIs, Web Services ...), transform the data using AWS Glue, Python and SQL and load them into target location as per use case.Advanced - Expert knowledge of Python, using Pandas and NumPy libraries.Practical knowledge of designing and writing well performing and optimized SQL queries.Understanding of how to build and deploy AWS resources via Terraform.Good knowledge of technical concepts and tools in analytics.Experience with Power BI or Quicksight is a plus.Personal AttributesGreat analytical skills in order to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.Self-driven and detail oriented with high standards of accuracy and precision.Drive to deliver results in a fast-paced, international team, with hands-on mentality.Proactivity and willingness to share and embrace ideas and opinions is essential - be open minded.Excellent communication skills with the ability to foster long-term relationships with internal teams, external partners and candidates.Build trust in your peers and managers with responsibility and accountability.Outstanding problem-solving abilities with a relentless focus on solutions and results.Enthusiastic and passionate about data, analytics, and data technologies.Job
