Job Summary
The Customer Service Representative assists customers in obtainingproducts and services they require to fulfill their goals. Showsleadership and proficiency in all major functional areas such asanswering phones, ordering computers and peripherals, electronics,books, apparel, souvenir, and general merchandise.
Duties & Responsibilities
Purchasing
Purchases all Illini Union Retail Operations computers, peripherals,electronics, books, apparel,
souvenir, and general merchandise regarding quality, quantity andprice.
Determines retail price of merchandise and maintain proper grossmargins.
Handle requests for individual and group special orders.
Inventory Control
Reviews inventory reports for details of merchandise to be ordered.
Processes price protection with vendors and our systems.
Arranges for pick-up of returned or exchanged merchandise andarranges for issuance of credit or new merchandise as required.
Maintains a complete set of inventory records by vendor, for eachitem purchased.
Customer Service
Provides product, technical and pricing information to customers ofthe Illini Union as requested.
Responds to complex customer requests to provide or clarifydepartmental services, policies, and
procedures. These requests may be received via telephone, email, faxor in-person visits.
Provides customers of the Illini Union Retail Operations Procurementwith information regarding
the availability of products and their estimated delivery time priorto and after the product has been ordered. This information may needto be obtained from the supplier of the products
requested.
Operations
Assists on sales floor as needed.
Maintains minimum operational functions in absence of supervisor.
Assists in processing various aspects of web order processes andsocial media, including pulling
of merchandise, processing of store transfers, creating, andreviewing related sales reports and
postings.
Training & Continuing Education
Participates in continuing education, trade show and meetings.
Train other customer service representatives as required.
Other
Perform other duties and additional responsibilities as assigned tohelp further the mission of the unit.
Minimum Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Any one or combination totaling three (3) years (36 months) from thefollowing categories:
A. college coursework in business administration, communications, publicrelations, or a closely related field as measured by the followingconversion table or its proportional equivalent:
30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)Associate\'s degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen (18) mon hs90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)Bachelor\'s degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36month)B. responsible work experience in customer service, public relations,office administration, business and financial operations, healthcareadministration or other closely related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The ability to work as a team is essential to the job. Knowledge ofproducts and industry trends is required to make intelligentdecisions regarding the purchase of merchandise. Commandingknowledge of open to buy, inventory systems and retailingprinciples. Business knowledge is required to work with pricing,discounts, and inventory management. Must be able to work at varyingpaces and perform a variety of jobs with accuracy. Computer skillsrequired.Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 4808 - Customer ServiceRepresentative position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expectedstart date is as soon as possible after 2/5/2024. This is a bargainedposition and as such, the salary is driven by the collective bargainingagreement. The entry-level salary for the Customer ServiceRepresentative classification is \$38,555.40 (\$19.772/hour). Work forthis position will be expected to wor
