  Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Milton is seeking a Critical Care Technician. The Critical Care Technician performs primary clerical responsibilities with clinical supports to the team of healthcare providers to provide the best experience and care for the patients, families and staff in the intensive care unit. It’s essential, the candidate chosen maintains a calm and professional demeanor at work while working in fast pace, highly demanding environment.

  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Perform clerical duties associated with this role. Assemble and prepare appropriate paperwork, charts, and forms. Communicate with appropriate departments.

  Prioritize and complete responsibilities delegated by nurse/physician/physician assistant.

  Work in a collegial and collaborative manner with other health care providers to determine the needs of the patients and their families and communicate effectively in the exchange of information to ensure quality and continuity of patient care.

  Assist providers in the delivery of care and assists patients who have physical and psychological limitations during the course of their care.

  Perform a variety of duties including obtaining EKGs, wound care and simple dressings, and assisting the patient with activities of daily living.

  Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection and point of care lab testing according to protocol and quality control standards. Communicates results to the appropriate staff and documents in the electronic health record (EHR).

  Assist with and/or perform transportation of patients and utilize appropriate equipment to provide for safe patient handling.

  Prepare patient rooms before patient arrival.

  Clean patient equipment following the designated process. Follow equipment management policy.

  Maintain supply inventory needed to maintain daily operations. Stock supplies, linen or office goods. Routinely reviews supplies to assure expiration dates are managed.

  Maintain annual mandatory education requirements that include hospital wide mandatory education, emergency skills, and unit based competencies. Complete within time period assigned.

  Participate as directed with quality improvement studies and activities specific to the unit.

  Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.

  May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or supervisor.

  The nature of the tasks/responsibilities required of employees in this position will likely expose them to blood and body fluids. Employees will be oriented to and required to understand and follow the standard precautions for infection control.

  A summary list of tasks and procedures that may cause exposure to blood and body fluids is listed in the attached Physical Abilities Job Description. Also identified is the protective gear that is available.

  QUALIFICATIONS:

  High School graduate or equivalent

  EMT, Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant or Nursing student with completion of one clinical rotation or other direct patient care experience

  Current AHA Basic Life Support
