About Our Opportunity
The Food and Agribusiness Credit Officer (CO) is a member of the credit team supporting Farm Credit Mid-America’s commercial and corporate lending initiatives. They are responsible for all credit activities related to this large and complex loan portfolio and will work closely with sales, support, legal, finance, and accounting staff to accomplish team goals. The CO will also serve as a resource to other staff throughout Farm Credit Mid-America.
ABOUT FOOD AND AGRIBUSINESS: The Food and Agribusiness team is responsible for servicing the Association’s largest and most complex customers. The portfolio includes originated loans, including those where Farm Credit Mid-America may be the administrative agent with exposure sold to other lenders, and purchased interests in multi-bank syndications, participations, and other debt instruments.
How You Will Spend Your Time
Credit Underwriting:
Leads the analysis and structuring of large commercial agribusiness and corporate credits
Work with the sales team, internal counsel, customers and participation partners to structure loans that meet the customer’s needs and protect the interests of Farm Credit Mid-America
Underwrite and act on credit actions within delegated authority
Analyze and develop recommendations for credit actions above individual delegated authority
Review and act on loan recommendations for other business units exceeding their delegated authority.
Risk Management:
Identify the Probability of Default of assigned accounts and proactively monitor to maintain accurate loan classification and risk rating.
Monitor the financial performance and covenant compliance of their assigned portfolio and disseminate as needed to partners and leadership
Lead activities that promote due-diligence and front-end guidance to the Food and Agribusiness team and Association
Support the loan closing and document review process
Marketplace Presence:
Accompany VP of Food and Agribusiness on meetings with influencers, partners, current or prospective customers
Provide back up to sales staff by representing Farm Credit Mid-America at customer and lender meetings as needed
Develop and maintain a professional presence in an assigned industry
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the team and Farm Credit Mid-America by sharing knowledge and expertise through activates such as coaching, training, mentoring, participation on work teams, etc.
Represent and communicate the purpose and values of Farm Credit Mid-America and comply with its conduct policy, security policy and confidentiality expectations
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in business, agriculture, or related field and at least three – five years of progressively responsible credit experience
Mental & Physical Requirements
Engage in telephone and face-to-face conversation to serve customers and give and receive information from customers, staff, vendors, outside consultants and the public.
Use a computer and similar office technology and tools.This involves reading the screen and keying/typing information. Proficient in Windows environment using the Microsoft Office suite of products and ability to use and understand various computer software applications related to essential responsibilities of the position.
Speak and make presentations to individuals or groups on technical subjects related to the job.
Travel via automobile or commercial transportation to carry out essential responsibilities of the job.
Successfully interact with and represent the organization to customers, staff, officers, board members, vendors, and/or the public at all levels.
Provide sound technical advice to customers and other staff in the subject field(s) related to this position.
Understand and explain various subject matter and consulting concepts, programs, terminology, and methods.
Reason, judge, compare, calculate, evaluate, decide, and critique such information as written material, numerical data, responses to customer needs, and/or other related work activities as provided.
