Counsel, Employment & Compliance
Flynn Group seeks an exceptional Counsel, Employment & Compliance to join its industry-recognized legal team. In this position, you will counsel and support compliance efforts for the country’s largest franchise operator, with more than 2,300 restaurants, 40 gyms, and 75,000 employees nationwide. This is a unique opportunity to join a diverse and dynamic in-house legal department in a high-visibility, high-impact role with direct access to senior leadership. You will not only collaborate closely with Human Resources, Payroll, Risk Management, IT, and Operations on key employment and privacy compliance initiatives, but will also have the opportunity to work cross-functionally with other business lines to support general corporate compliance initiatives.

The position may be based in our San Francisco, CA; Cleveland, OH; or Kansas City, MO Support Centers; or remotely in Phoenix, AZ.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision and guidance of Flynn’s Associate General Counsel, Compliance, provide multistate advice and strategic support to Human Resources, Payroll, Operations, IT, and Risk Management on the full range of employment and regulatory compliance, such as wage and hour, payroll, benefits, hiring, performance management, internal investigations, employee classification, leaves of absence, discipline, termination, workplace injuries and data privacy.
Support and help drive completion of the annual compliance plan.
Investigate and respond to agency charges, government audits, and demand letters, and provide counseling and advice regarding same.
Support wage and hour compliance audits, identify areas of employment-related compliance opportunities, advise on preventative and corrective action plans, and update internal business clients on legal trends.
Monitor federal, state, and local legislation, regulations, and case law on matters pertinent to the company; communicate updates and recommendations as needed.
Support updating/revising company policies per changes in laws and regulations.
Coordinate with HR and Training to create and implement compliance-related training.
Occasional travel involved.
Requirements
3-6 years of employment law experience.
J.D. from an accredited law school; must have California bar admission in good standing.
Experience in various stages of employment litigation, as well as knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations (e.g., Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, FEHA, PAGA) and federal and state agencies (e.g., DOL, EEOC, DLSE, DFEH).
Experience in privacy advice and counseling is a plus – willingness to learn is a must.
Entrepreneurial and inquisitive mindset that enables you to work independently, while using good judgment to escalate issues when needed.
Demonstrated ability to guide multiple objectives and initiatives simultaneously.

Notice to California Applicants: When based in California, the good faith estimated range of pay for the above position is $145,000 to $175,000, depending on factors including but not limited to experience and skill. There is a target discretionary incentive bonus of 20%.
