This role is a newly created one within Ironwood to support internal communications throughout the organization. The Corporate Communications Specialist will play an integral role in shaping Ironwood’s internal culture.
This person will lead most internal company-wide communications activities from Ironwood headquarters in Boston, with a specific focus on its site in Basel, Switzerland, which includes researchers, scientists, drug developers, and operational staff to drive new therapies for both rare and GI diseases. An important feature of this role is to localize global communication strategies and operationalize them for our site in Basel.
The ideal candidate will have some global healthcare and site communications experience, exceptional writing ability, strong organizational skills, excellent stakeholder management skills, and the ability to independently manage an idea through completion. The successful candidate will need to be able to balance delivering various quality communications simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. This position will report directly to our Head of Corporate Communications and Media Relations.
Responsibilities
Manage communication strategies for internal communication efforts, with an emphasis on employee engagement. Efforts will focus on promoting company goals and improving employee understanding of our corporate mission, values, and overall business strategy. Anticipate the communications needs for enterprise efforts with a focus on our Basel site, R&D and Field Force organizations and plan to meet those needs and ensure smooth delivery of consistent messages. Manage on-site office days, aka Culture & Collaboration days, throughout the year in Boston and Basel. Work closely and collaboratively with our Employee Resource Groups. Plan, produce, edit, and/or write content for a variety of mediums, including newsletters, email announcements, presentations, talking points, social media, and videos. Manage and be a strategic owner for our intranet site, including blog posts, company announcements, and general updates to keep employees informed. Support our Basel site, R&D, and Field Force teams with specialized communications, including thought leadership opportunities (identification, creation, review, and approval), and tracking the effectiveness of these efforts. Build strong relationships with relevant stakeholders in all functions within the organization, including cross-functional collaboration to ensure consistency of messaging. Help organize and lead monthly all-company Town Hall meetings, including setting agendas, preparing participants, finalizing content and hosting. Oversee public relations agency efforts to develop and finalize social media content on behalf of the company and company executives. Work fluidly in a fast-paced, matrixed organization. Provide fundamental department organization, including maintaining project timelines, editorial calendars and tracking metrics.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or relevant field 5-7 years of prior experience in communication, writing, or relevant role 3+ years of prior biotech communications experience, agency experience is a plus Excellent oral and written communication skills, including editing skills, sense of storytelling Experience with intranet publications, social media, and other e-communication tools Outstanding organizational and planning abilities Ability to demonstrate solution-focused, innovative thinking Knowledge of internal and site communications Prior experience in global or international communications is desirable Ability to work independently and under pressure using sound judgment in decision-making, including setting and managing priorities and meeting competing deadlines Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to high quality and timely work product Interest in developing and growing with a company

Ironwood currently anticipates that the initial base salary for this position could range from between $113,000 to $134,505. The actual base salary will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience.
