Position SummaryThe position evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Performs assignments, which have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables for an engineering discipline on a project team within a global business unit. Understands the basic discipline work processes. Performs engineering tasks, having a minor degree of complexity, under the leadership of an engineering supervisor, lead, or more senior engineer. Participates in reviewing and checking designs, drawings, and data from suppliers.
The ideal candidate will have solid experience in control system design and will be capable of developing design documents that incorporate the applicable design. In addition, it will be required that the candidate have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), and can be the “face” of Bechtel, promoting our leadership, quality, and safety values, to the client, suppliers, and subcontrators.
This role will be based in Knoxville, TN, with periodic business travel to other Bechtel offices, supplier facilities and jobsites, as required.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Review project design criteria.
Design and review of Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) for various plant systems to add control/functionality for intermediate process control systems.
Prepare systems descriptions for the Control Systems discipline and review and prepare input to other engineering discipline system descriptions.
Generation of design and design change packages.
Origination of setpoint calculations.
Specification of instrumentation and control valves.
Generation of instrument and control valve data sheets and material requisitions.
Design and review of digital and analog control logic.
Design and prepare functional block diagrams.
Data entry to instrumentation, valve, and I/O databases.
Design and application of tubing and instrument installations, etc.
Allocation and layout of facility control system I/O.
Coordination of physical locations of instrumentation, control valves, control cabinets, etc.
Design and review of control cabinet layouts.
Develop and review equipment and material specifications.
Review of supplier provided data and documentation.
Execute to schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
Coordination of technical issues with other engineering disciplines and other functions (e.g., Construction, Start-up).
Qualifications and SkillsBasic Qualifications:
Must be a U.S. citizen.
This role requires a facility-specific clearance that requires U.S. Citizenship.
Level 1 : BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field from an accredited university, with a minimum of one (1) year control systems experience, or MS degree in Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field, or in lieu of degree, seven (7) years engineering experience related to position.
Level 2 : BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field from an accredited university, with a minimum of three (3) years control systems experience, or MS degree in Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field, or in lieu of degree, nine (9) years engineering experience related to position.
Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense.
Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1 or ISO-9100.
Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards (e.g., ISA, ASME and/or ANSI/IEEE).
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.) and other related computer programs required to perform job functions.
Extensive knowledge of Control Systems Engineering work processes and specifications.
Willingness to travel on business trips in support of projects.
Excellent verbal and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT)/Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate.
Current (not expired) Professional Engineering License.
Knowledge of Bechtel procedures, guides, and standards.
Knowledge of cyber security requirements, as applicable to industrial control systems.
Previous Bechtel, DOD and/or DOE project experience.
