We operate Guinness packaging facilities at Marshalls Road in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Runcorn, in North West England, producing canned, bottled and kegged product for Ireland, UK and export markets. Significant investment is underway at both of these locations.
This role is site based at Diageo’s east Belfast packaging facility is a 12-acre site running a 24/7 operation and is supplied with beer from St James Gate brought to the site in bulk tankers, which each hold up to 30,000 litres of beer. It has been operating for over 30 years, formerly as Irish Bonding and employs 150 direct staff. The site produces over 20 brands, including Guinness Draught, Extra Stout and Foreign Extra Stout, Harp, Hop House 13, Smithwick’s and Rockshore.
About this role
This is a really exciting time for Belfast Packaging. In April 2022 we announced a £24.5million investment in our site, with the installation of a new canning line, which is nearing completion. We are in the process of delivering a significant increase in capacity, and as Performance Improvement Lead, you will embed the processes to ensure we deliver world class performance across the site.
You will play a key role in coaching and mentoring our Team Leaders and will partner closely with our Small Pack Performance Managers to drive the improvement agenda. You will be a key influencer, and will work closely with the Global Manufacturing Excellence (ManEx) team, programme managing the ManEx programme in Belfast Packaging. You will build relationships on site as well as across the wider Diageo ManEx network. You will continually push the boundaries for performance and be a leader in driving significant cost efficiency to drive action and delivery in alignment with the business plans.
Other key responsibilities include:
Developing and coaching the cultural change and get to Zero stops & Zero WasteFacilitating and leading plant and process problem solving.Being a performance partner to shift managers with joint accountability for results of the line (c/o time, OEE losses LS / SS, other stops including material quality)Being a functional partner to the shift managers and well practised in the tools and methodologies to apply (e.g. Loss & Waste analysis, RCPS, DMAIC)Coaching of intact team on trouble shooting toolsProviding performance data and drive continuous improvement activities into weekly planning meeting to ensure preventative maintenance plans are robust & align with lossesLeading strategic improvement projects using the DMAIC methodology. (eg 5Why, FT-DMAIC, Yellow Belt, Green Belt etc)Leading loss & waste agenda provides data & performance insights and a clear strategy to prioritise improvementsSupporting capital expenditure projects – Being the key interface with contractors and project engineering on asset and process improvement projects
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and ability to communicate to all levels across the plantExperience working in a process environment with evidence to demonstrate ability to develop effective working relationships with stakeholders and cross functional teams to deliver organisational effectiveness and improved business performance.A proven track record of utilising manufacturing excellence tools and techniques such as 5S, set up time reduction, Lean six sigma, reliability centred maintenance Fastrack DMAIC, AM broad-planTo have or be willing to work towards a NEBOSH and a qualification in Brewing & Distilling qualification however this is not crucial.
