Summary
The Continuous Improvement Engineer is expected to use engineering tools, lean manufacturing tools, and practical experience to improve manufacturing processes and business procedures. The position requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the automotive market and/or vocational truck builds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop written and visual process packets for shoptechnicians.
Develop and maintain quality control measures andprocedures.
Review installation manuals and/or correspond with manufacturer to ensure requirements are met when installing purchased equipment.
Work with Design Engineering to ensure designed components and systems are installed asrequired.
Collaborate with production to produce the most efficient process for installing truck mountedequipment.
Document designs using 3D solid (SolidWorks) and 2D drafting software(AutoCAD).
Generate manuals for designed equipment asrequired.
Maintain revision control on controlleddocuments.
Collaborate with sales staff to ensure that customer equipment expectations are met and create sales support drawings.
Evaluate weight and balance issues for road worthiness and cranestability.
Evaluate designs based on applicable regulations and industrystandards.
Conduct pre-build reviews with production staff asrequired.
Document and communicate modifications to purchased devices (e.g. cranes, aerial devices, etc.) wit manufacturer.
Assist Production with floor-level decision making, development of work processes and tools.
Maintain revision control on drawings and other controlleddocuments.
Develop sources for required hardware andsystems.
Analyze product failures, develop repairs and redesignaccordingly.

Required Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and/or a minimum of 5 years' experience in vocational truckbuilding .
Microsoft Office - Proficient in Excel and Word.
Design software - 3D and 2D (SolidWorks and AutoCad preferred).
Ability to read and interpret documents; ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Must also possess the ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of organization.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables.
Must have Initiative and the ability to act and operate independently with minimal dally direction from manager to accomplish objectives.
Must possess a strong desire to learn.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
This job does not require any specific certificates, licenses or registrations; however Lean Manufacturing Certificates or Six Sigma Belt training is preferred.
Highly detail oriented and organized in work.
Acceptable written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with a customer service focus with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results.
Mechanical skills/experience with heavy trucks and heavy equipment are a plus.
