Project Description:Saudi Arabian Bechtel Company is providing executive project management consultancy (PMC) services (including technical, commercial, and construction management) for the development of certain defined aspects of the NEOM infrastructure in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
NEOM is a planned cross-border city in the Tabuk Province of northwestern Saudi Arabia. The site is near the Red Sea and the borders of Egypt, Israel, and Jordan. It will cover a total area of 26,500 km2 (10,200 sq mi) and will extend 460 km along the coast of the Red Sea. NEOM will be the home and workplace for more than a million residents from around the world. It will include towns and cities, ports and enterprise zones, research centers, sports and entertainment venues, and tourist destinations. As a hub for innovation, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and companies will come to research, incubate, and commercialize new technologies and enterprises in groundbreaking ways.
Job Responsibilities:The construction supervisor provides day-to-day oversight and direction to the construction engineers and construction field personnel assigned to on-site construction projects. He or she is responsible for protecting and promoting the interests and values of the company in all matters and for taking actions as required to satisfy responsibilities. Strong and committed to delivering safety on site operations and to all aspects of high quality in the scope of work. The construction supervisor brings specialized knowledge and experience in executing projects in water and wastewater collection and treatment facilities; is responsible for coordination and interfaces between contractors; and manages the performance of the works to meet schedules and milestones. Needs to be able to motivate the workforce and steer the team towards a culture of collaborative teamwork.
Ensure safety and quality training programs are implemented and drive a culture of high standards.
Prepare for project startup with the contractor and project manager. Execute project activities as required to meet day-to-day and overall objectives.
Understand and apply the requirements in project documents about quality control procedures such as testing, shop drawings, material approvals, samples, mock-ups, execution of the earthworks, etc.
Become familiar with each job technical specification and follow the directions for performing work within the boundaries of the contract.
Keep the construction manager apprised of any change in the contractor’s activity or cost prior to incurring additional time or materials outside of the project scope.
Provide input on the scheduling and placement of production methodologies. Plan and review the construction project and contractors’ submittals with the project manager on a weekly basis. Supervise the site work on site.
Review the contractor’s method statement, risk assessment, etc., and the preparation of the weekly progress report; keep them properly updated; and ensure that everything feasible is done for the project to meet the required dates.
Support the construction manager to ensure timely on-site delivery of materials and equipment furnished by the contractor.
Direct field staff to ensure their continued development by using performance evaluations, varying assignments, and promoting positive project morale.
Job Knowledge and Requirements:Minimum 10 years’ experience in construction of large-scale industrial or infrastructure projects, preferably in large-scale potable water or water and wastewater treatment construction projects (collection and treatment facilities), either in direct construction or construction management roles in construction projects,
A recognized degree in civil engineering
Thorough knowledge of international standards, specifications, and codes as applicable, including safety procedures and practices associated with the construction works
Experience in heavy earthworks and reinforced concrete retaining structures
Experience in piping and welding, mechanical systems (pumps, vessels, and compressors), and/or electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems is preferred.
Experience in providing oversight and management of contractor performance, including providing feedback on workforce productivity and capabilities
Ability to publish, review, and validate three-week look-ahead schedules based on the project's overall schedule
Knowledge and experience in the implementation of ES&H and quality management systems
Experience in the KSA, Middle East, or GCC is preferred.
Must be able to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills to maintain a positive work environment between all parties, including the client, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project life cycle.
Self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently and exercise professional judgment, with a passion to take ownership of projects and provide sound technical leadership to the contractor’s staff and field engineers
