Your Opportunity
We’re looking for a Construction Inspector support large and small projects for new and existing clients in the water, wastewater, stormwater, roads, pathways, pump stations, grading and soil erosion control. This exciting opportunity provides excellent career growth opportunities in the Water practice.
Your role will be to assist the municipal client, to observe and record activities associated with the Contractor’s construction progress in a fast-paced environment. You will need to be self-directed, capable of independent tasks as well as supporting multidiscipline complex teams, and should demonstrate a passion for involvement in the civil construction industry with an enthusiasm for successful completion of projects that meet our clients’ need.
This role is based out of Stantec's Ann Arbor office, so an ability to commute to the Ann Arbor office is a requirement.
Your Key Responsibilities
You provide single-point field inspection of the construction contractor’s work representing the Construction Manager in the field.
You will, monitor, inspect and document the construction contractor’s work and prepare a comprehensive written Daily Report with your observations of work activities, an accounting of labor and equipment resources utilized, a statement of general compliance or non-compliance with the work, etc.
You will communicate directly, both verbally and written, with construction contractors regarding conformance or non-conformance to standards, plans, specifications and codes.
You will ensure Contractor prepares prompt requests for information (RFI’s) for questions that may affect the construction schedule.
You will review project submittals, analyze and document any construction issues, and maintain master as-built and record drawing information maintained by the construction contractor.
You will plan and coordinate all field testing and inspections in accordance with the Contract Documents.
You’ll work with Construction Manager to implement methodology and criteria to resolve any non-compliance notices previously issued.
You will review and submit all test reports for inclusion in turnover documentation to Owner.
You will assist with observing, documenting and approving of authorized Force Account change order work performed on a time and materials basis.
You will review the monthly progress pay estimate submitting by the construction contractor to verify requests for payment of materials, percent complete and earned value.
You will prepare and monitor a project punch-list for deficient or uncompleted work by the construction contractor.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
A technical degree/diploma/certificate in a related program; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Previous experience is preferred but not required.
Understand and interpret contract documents and test plan for a designated Work Package for a specific construction activity.
