Our Construction Managers are on the forefront of creating and delivering the most innovative products to our customers; and are known for changing the face of cloud computing.

  AWS Data Center APJC Construction Program team is seeking a highly enthusiastic, motivated, and customer facing Construction Coordinator to innovate, manage, and create new programs that improve our efficiency in the high volume and fast paced delivery environment. This coordinator role requires strong communication skills with managers, peers and team members, both within their immediate department, as well as with other departments and business partners to drive effective and sustainable delivery strategies, processes and SOPs.

  Construction Coordinator (APJC Construction Program) is an individual contributor reporting to the APJC Lead Construction Program Manager, with the future opportunity to be a People Manager. You will work within a diverse and creative team solving fascinating problems constructing Amazon Data Centers. You will support the APJC Construction Program Lead and work with SMEs and Construction Managers delivering data center capacity to support Amazon’s growth in the APJC region.

  Our Data Center Construction team owns and drives the construction life cycle from constructability, proposal development, bid analysis, award, to managing the onsite construction work. This position is based in Sydney and involves regular travel (up to 20% of the time) to other locations in the region

  The Construction Coordinator will be ultimately responsible for ensuring the organization adopts a consistent and scalable approach to Procore management, project management processes, pre-construction services, schedule management and commercial management. The program management team will provide the centralized support to Construction Managers (CMs) on preconstruction services, project controls (time, cost, quality and safety), administration tasks, systems, programs, processes, SOPs, templates and dashboards.

  The role may be undertaken in Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore or Mumbai.

  Key job responsibilities

  •Providing centralized support to Procore system and administration

  •Providing various systems and administration support including propriety

  •Liaising with Global Procore team and APJC Construction to troubleshoot issues and improve the system usibility

  •Working with CMs to ensure the consistent implementation of system, processes and template during construction and project closeout

  •Identifying gaps and creating processes to drive efficiencies and reduce level of efforts (LOEs) on repeating and overlapping works, eliminate non-value-add activities, removing blockers, and driving automation.

  •Identifying gaps in global processes and creating processes, SOPs and templates that are suitable for APJC local requirements

  •Driving lesson learned across APJC Construction.

  •Gathering data across clusters to support reporting, including scope, schedule, budget, resources, quality and risk management, reporting and metric development/tracking;

  •Creating and delivering training and onboarding programs on key knowledge and tools to Construction.

  •Building metrics for KPI reporting to drive better performance internally and externally

  A day in the life

  You will use data and anecdotes to tactically drive internal customers to manage project risks (time, cost, quality and safety). You will apply your knowledge and experience to identify and develop process to bridge the gaps. You need to have the backbone to use the data to tell the business “this is what the data is telling us, and this is how it is done” and develop solutions that enable our Construction Managers to enforce the effective project control with their General Contractors and vendors.

  You must be an effective communicator, sending clear, concise and consistent messages verbally, in written form, and/or public speaking forums. You must have diplomacy, patience and tact to earn trust in relationships to effectively advise, instruct and challenge internal and external partner teams on strategies and processes.

  About the team

  You will be integrated with a global network of Construction professionals including Construction Managers, Program Managers, Regional Managers, and Regional Project Engineers in operational teams.

  Our Data Center Construction Program team owns and drives the process from constructability of design, procurement strategies, proposal development, bid analysis, award, to managing the onsite construction work.

  We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

  Sydney, NSW, AUS

  Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management or an equivalent engineering science OR 4+ years of related construction management experience in lieu of a degree.

  • 4+ years of experience directly coordinating construction project with Construction Manager or Project Manager on site as Construction Coordinator or Project Engineer.

  • 4+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution.

  Preferred Qualifications

  5+ years’ experience in project management or construction management of mission critical facilities

  • Experience directly related to program delivery / PMO and coordination

  • Experience of working with Procore, Power BI, Quicksight, Smartsheet, SQL and dashboard reporting

  • Experience with large scale technical operations or large-scale mission critical facilities

  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.

  • Proven track record in creating and releasing high quality, consistent documentation for processes, standards and procedures.

  • Ability to define data center system-level architecture, specify/document performance and equipment requirements, create/communicate conceptual designs, and create/maintain project documentation.

  • Ability and willingness to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs and duration with no impact on quality and reliability.

  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role

  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.

  • Experience in developing and presenting business case analysis to senior leadership.

  • Drive Continuous Improvement methodologies, practices.
