We seek a reporter to cover the exciting world of commodities for Dow Jones Newswires in EMEA.
This broad beat takes in industrial- and precious metals, soft commodities like coffee, sugar and cocoa, and agricultural commodities, all of which are of key importance to Dow Jones Newswires' growing base of professional customers around the world
The successful applicant will closely watch market developments on a daily basis and provide real-time analysis of what's moving prices and why with the urgency and accuracy expected for newswires readers. He or she will cover regular data releases and forecasts that have a direct bearing on supply and demand, and will have scope to write at greater length on market trends and themes.
As issues around climate change and environmental governance take on ever-greater significance, this is an exciting time to be joining our real-time reporting team. Working with colleagues locally and in our regional hubs in the U.S. and Asia provides further scope for cooperation across regions and platforms.
A key part of the role is to coordinate and tie together themes and impacts across asset classes.,
Attendance at major industry conferences and the ability to network and build a fat contact book are another key element.
The job holder will work very closely with the reporter covering energy markets for newswires, and each will be expected to back the other up during absences, and again to seek coverage synergies across traded securities.
You will:
Identify and flash market moves across core coverage areas of base- and precious metals, softs and ags, and quickly interpret and analyze them for a professional audience. Provide actionable insights in the form of short- and long-form analysis at a regular cadence throughout the day, in addition to interviews and thematic pieces File regular reports from various trade bodies Attend events
The position is based in the Barcelona office.
You will have:
Exceptional news judgment to identify market moves and write quickly and accurately in a fast-paced publishing environment A depth of financial knowledge to quickly assess and prioritize market coverage The ability to turn around breaking news in your sector accurately and quickly A minimum of two-years financial reporting experience, preferably in a real-time role. Plenty of initiative and forward thinking
You will:
Uphold Dow Jones standards and ethics. Recognize and respond to the core audiences for Dow Jones Newswires, and their needs and expectations. Help to connect the content with the audience. Collaborate with reporters and editors from other groups, including WSJ colleagues and those in other bureaus and regions.
