Job Description
Aramark is looking for a mechanical engineer to become part of a commissioning team. Commissioning is a process that verifies the operation of new building infrastructure including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. We are engaged by the owner to oversee the design and construction of multimillion dollar projects. As part of the commissioning process, the employee will participate in peer reviews of the design, review submittals, conduct static inspections of the construction, test the new equipment and assist the owner with ensuring the proper training is provided. Documentation will be required for each of the processes.
The desired candidate will possess a mechanical engineering degree with 5 years of relevant experience in the fields of HVAC design, project management, and automatic temperature controls. The work will include both field and office work which will be home-based. Work within the region will primarily be local. Most travel will be limited primarily to sites that can be accessed on a daily commute.
Job Responsibilities
Some of the advantages of being a commissioning agent:
Autonomy: You will be primarily responsible for keeping yourself busy.
Flexibility: Your workday is scheduled by you. There is no 9-5 grind. You decide whether you want to work from home or go into the field on that day.
Exposure: You will be working with the tradesman in the field all the way up to the CEOs of multi-billion-dollar companies.
Blameless: You will never be considered at fault. It will always be someone else?s issue.
Satisfaction: The owner has paid Aramark to ensure a successful project. You will be appreciated for your contribution of that outcome.
Alternate career path choices for our desired candidates (not this position):
Design Engineer: Primarily office based with a daily commute. Little to no work from home opportunities. You will be held to timelines and accuracy in your design and there will be great consequences for mistakes. Timelines will be unrealistic. Work-life balance will be lopsided. Extensive travel may be required. If sitting at a desk all day looking at a computer screen is for you than choose this path.
Controls Technician, Project Manager, Programmer: Many of our commissioning agents originated from this field. This is an easy transition to commissioning. No one has ever gone back. Timelines in the controls world are nearly impossible. Depending on your skillset, you will either sit at a desk all day or be in the field every day. Budgets are always tight and you will be working overtime without additional pay to compensate. Regardless of what is wrong, it is always your fault. Money only comes when you jump companies.
Tradesman: You are dirty all day and your hands are beat up. All of your work is field based and sites are generally a longer commute. This will be a job that you will have for the rest of your career and at some point you will not be able to do it anymore because your body has given out.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in an Engineering or Technical Related with 2 years experience
Highly motivated individual
Experience with MS Word, Excel, and OneNote
Ability to read and understand construction documents and specifications
Project Management experience
Automatic temperature controls experience is preferred
