The GTO Operational Intelligence (OI) Team at Vanguard is excited to announce our search for a Cloud Specialist to join our team, which is responsible for owning, engineering and operating best-in-class observability and monitoring platforms. The OI team is a highly engaged, passionate, and collaborative team of full stack engineers.
Our suite of Operational Intelligence platforms is essential for building confidence in the resiliency of all Vanguard applications and services. This highly dynamic role helps our clients have the data they need (logs, traces, metrics, synthetics, app. management et al to effectively trouble shoot infrastructure issues and enable a proactive method to drive up resiliency of Vanguard’s infrastructure. Observability is one of the key enablers as we pursue our aggressive IT goals of 99.999% availability for mission critical services.
This position will have a particular focus enabling observability practices and tooling in our constantly evolving environment.

Contribute to the technical expertise of the team.
Help drive strategic development and work on some of Vanguard's most valuable observability platforms.
Ensure the end-to-end quality and success of our operational intelligence product suite following industry best-practices.
Help Vanguard prepare for success in the face of the unexpected demands of the modern web.
Work with Development Teams, Site Reliability Engineers, Delivery Managers, Platform Teams, Architects and more to find the most efficient ways to scale

Recommended Technical Proficiencies
Experience in Observability and monitoring capabilities - logs, traces, metrics.
Scripting technologies
Strong development, sysadmin and/or product support experience in a variety of technologies (AWS, etc.), familiarity with DevOps/SRE/observability practices and the ability to solve sophisticated business/technology problems.
Core Responsibilities
Identifies, recommends, and implements high-quality software features.
Diagnoses and troubleshoots the most complex issues for cloud computing systems on multiple platforms. Maintains comprehensive technical knowledge of software and infrastructure platforms.
Adheres to department and Vanguard standards for acceptable application performance. Reviews those configuration parameters to optimize system performance and maximize uptime.
Troubleshoots and resolves the issues elevated from our users. Provides guidance and consultation as required. Updates, writes, and maintains documentation for the department.
Performs systems analysis, including system requirements analysis and definition, and logical design.
Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
What it takes:
Minimum of five years related work experience with progressive responsibility required.
Undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience required.
Familiarity with core AWS services
Experience using or maintaining monitoring/observability software and frameworks (Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, Open Telemetry, PagerDuty) a plus
Development experience (Python, Java, Node.js. Perl, Linux shell scripting) a plus
