Job Description
Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking an experienced Clinic Licensed Practical Nurse II to provide direct care and treatment of patients by preparing and assisting patients with examinations (including obtaining vitals, etc.) by Medical Providers/specialty consultants; manages internal medical appointments (including serving as a back-up to managing external medical/non-medical appointments/trips), schedules and conducts EKGs for patients; schedules and administers vaccines/PPDs for patients; performs phlebotomy back-up coverage; manages emergency medical supplies and equipment for crash carts; assists Infection Preventionist with vaccine and TB program; performs other related work as required.
WRCH is a Joint Commission accredited 320-bed recovery center and hospital that serves 260 adults and 60 adolescents through an innovative design and provides a state-of-the-art environment for patients and staff. DMH inpatient facilities promote recovery and resiliency and are integral to the continuum of care for all consumers across Massachusetts. Please Note: This position is a permanent, 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will work Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM with Saturday/Sunday as days off.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
• Treats all patients with dignity and respect through interactions which affirm the individual's needs and preferences and by optimally integrating the patient's perspective into all facets of care; will advocate for patients, facilitate timely resolution of patient concerns, and assist patients in the exercise of their rights.
• Is assigned to assist Medical Providers/Consultants with Medical Clinic internal medical appointments (including specialty, routine, SBARs, etc.), assisting Medical Providers/specialty consultants with patients may include, but are not limited to assessing, gathering vital sign data, conducting treatments, collecting samples). Serves as a back-up for all internal/external medical appointments external medical/non-medical appointments/trips.
• Performs back-up phlebotomy and other lab related duties as assigned.
• Assists with the documentation of required patient and Medical Clinic records.
• Schedules, administers, and manages ordered vaccines and TB tests and data for patients.
• Performs and manages ordered EKG tests and data for patients.
• Assists with patient Encounter Forms or any other form by initiating their use of each consultant and checking that they are completed properly.
• Maintains and manages emergency medical supplies and equipment for crash carts/trauma bags hospital-wide.
• Assists Infection Preventionist in managing/oversee vaccine and TB program for staff and patients, which includes being responsible for Quality Control for storage, administration, and documentation of vaccines/TB testing.
• Assists in distributing medical equipment and assists in communicating with Property Management when equipment is damaged/malfunctioning.
• Manages usage of Medical Clinic Exam rooms and ensures rooms' supplies are stocked.
• Provides coverage at the front desk, answers phone calls, greets patients, and checks patients in/out from the Medical Clinic.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
License and/or Certification Requirement:
• Current License in Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Licensed Practical Nursing.
Required Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of the theories methods, procedures, and practices of nursing and patients.
• Working knowledge of the established nursing procedures for the administration of medications.
• Ability to understand written and oral instructions.
• Ability to work effectively with patients in a hospital.
• Ability to provide a leadership role.
• Working knowledge of D.M.H. regulations and facility policies.
Qualifications Acquired on Job (List Knowledges, Skills, Abilities):
• Ability to work effectively with physically, mentally or emotionally disturbed patients..
About Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WHRC):
Located on over 100 acres in Worcester, Massachusetts, Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) is part of an integrated network of effective, efficient and culturally competent mental health services. It provides intermediate and long-term inpatient care for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness who live in Massachusetts, as well as individuals requiring specialized court ordered evaluations.
WRCH provides inpatient services to 260 inpatient adults, inclusive of a Deaf Inpatient Mental Health Service; 30 inpatient adolescents and 30 residential adolescents, in either an Intensive Residential Treatment Program (IRTP) or a Behavioral Intensive Residential Treatment Program (BIRT).

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have at least one year of paraprofessional experience in the field of nursing as a licensed practical nurse.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a current and valid license as a practical nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
