Captains are responsible for the safe conduct of flights to which they are assigned. Captains report directly to the chief pilot. When assigned to a flight, the captain has the final authority in the operation of the aircraft. Captains must ensure compliance with all federal, state, local and foreign regulations, as well as the policies and procedures specified in the company operations manual. Captains are the company’s most visible representative to the passengers and must act with tact and decorum while ensuring an efficient and safe operation. Captains may be required to travel up to 75% of the time.
The duties of a captain include, but are not limited to:
Act as pilot in command (PIC) of flights for which the pilot has been scheduled
Provide excellent customer service to passengers
Comply with schedules and other directives governing the aircraft’s operation
Ensure that preflight inspections are performed
Study weather conditions at destination, en route, alternate airports and departure points
Prepare flight plans
Ensure that the aircraft is clean and prepared for flight with all provisions on board for the safety and comfort of the passengers
Review and calculate the aircraft weight and balance, fuel on board and performance charts
Use checklists
Supervise the first officer (second in command) in any duties necessary for the smooth, safe and efficient operation of the aircraft
Coordinate the functioning of all crewmembers assigned to the flight
Monitor crew performance, share knowledge with crewmembers and evaluate crewmember potential for advancement
Make decisions necessary to start, delay, or cancel flights and deviate the flight from planned route or destination when operating conditions dictate
Instruct contract pilots
Oversee refueling and servicing of the aircraft
Assist in the loading and unloading of baggage and perform other services as required to expedite the handling of passengers
Perform rescue and evacuation of injured persons
Complete all required aircraft forms logs, records, and reports
Preferred Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Aviation, Business, or related field
License and Experience Requirements:
Citation XLS+ Type Rating
FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate
First Class Medical Certificate
3-5 years corporate, charter, fractional, or airline turbojet experience
3,500 hours flight time, 1,500 hours of fixed wing pilot-in-command experience, 500 fixed wing turbojet pilot-in -command experience
No accidents, incidents, or FAA violations
Valid Drivers’ License
