General Summary:
Chief Licensed Stationary Engineer is responsible for leading the Facilities and Engineering staff in the safe and proper operation and maintenance of all mechanical equipment pertaining to the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing functions of the hospital. The Chief Stationary Engineer operates the boilers, chillers, and answers service calls. The Chief Stationary Engineer maintains and operates Life Safety equipment and utility management equipment for the Hospital. The Chief Stationary Engineer demonstrates professionalism and self-motivation in order to perform all duties as scheduled or required. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructs the Facilities and Engineering staff and provides technical services on Utilities, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, steam, medical air, medical gas, vacuum systems, preventive maintenance, repairs and installation according to established procedures and code requirements.
Instructs the Facilities and Engineering staff and maintains and operates Life Safety equipment and Utilities management equipment for the Hospital
Instructs the Facilities and Engineering staff and performs preventive maintenance on equipment per established Hospital PM program.
Interacts and schedules outside contractors in maintenance duties as required.
Effectively communicates to management and staff both verbally and in writing to maintain a safe environment.
Takes ownership of assigned zone to improve the zone maintenance program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be a Licensed Stationary Engineer with the City of Chicago.
Must have Graduated High School or equivalent (GED)
Completion of apprentice Program.
Must have 10 years of relevant work experience 3 years being in a lead or supervisory role in the operation of high-pressure boilers, chilled water plant equipment, electrical distribution equipment, lighting equipment, plumbing systems, and refrigeration equipment.
Ability to read and work from architectural and mechanical blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
Basic interpersonal skills, analytical skills, and the ability to concentrate.
Safe use of testing equipment, hand and power tools.
Capable of lifting building supplies weighing up to 60 pounds as much as 30% of work time. Generally able to conduct physical activities associated with the performance of this job.
Experienced with computers with an understanding in using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Internet.
