Position Summary
The Chief Nursing Officer for Education, Innovation & Transformation is responsible for leading and overseeing nursing education programs and promoting innovation in nursing practice within Bon Secours Mercy Health. This role requires a visionary leader who can develop and implement strategies to enhance nursing education, foster a culture of continuous learning and drive innovation in patient care. This position will set the strategy and priorities for nursing education and innovation across the ministry and ensure resources, processes and collaborative efforts with market and facility leadership for implementation.
Essential Job Functions
Collaboration and Partnerships: Collaborate with healthcare leaders, academic institutions, and industry partners to promote innovation and education and advance BSMH strategic priorities.
Innovation and Transformation: Defines the long-term strategic vision and scope for all nursing innovation programs and priorities to advance nursing’s strategic priorities at BSMH. Leads and develops initiatives that advance nursing science and evidence-based practice while collaborating with system and market interdisciplinary teams to drive innovation in healthcare delivery. Fosters a culture of innovation in nursing practice by setting the strategic direction for nursing leaders and associates that encourages and implements new approaches to patient care. Responsible for innovation in future care delivery models fostering improvements across the caregiver experience, patient experience and outcomes. This position will lead system wide scaling of select solutions and assessment, planning, development of innovation units and implementation of technology advancement in collaboration with market leadership for implementation and execution.
Educational leadership: Develops and implements strategic plans for nursing education and professional development programs in collaboration with key stakeholders and market leadership. Leads nursing educators and design teams to leverage principles of adult learning and appropriate teaching strategies to enhance curriculum and clinical experiences while ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements. Establishes nursing academic practice partnerships that advance the workforce development strategy to achieve mutually agreed upon goals with partner schools such as professional growth and development of students and BSMH associates and effective recruitment and transition to practice for graduate nurses. Establishes system standards for professional nurse onboarding, education, professional development and professional practice programs and processes to meet identified educations needs and ensure contemporary, diverse learning experiences for the nursing workforce. Sets system standards for nursing practice excellence and nursing sensitive outcome management as outlined by the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program. Leads and guides the nursing research agenda to contribute new knowledge, innovation, and technology to the nursing profession.
Quality Improvement: Implements education and innovation strategies that align with ministry KPIs for patient outcomes and improvement as key measures of success while promoting evidence-based practice and clinical excellence. Monitors and evaluates nursing practice trends to identify opportunities for improvement, works with clinical leadership teams to develop strategies and implement plans as needed.
Resource Management: Manages budget and resources for nursing education and innovation programs while ensuring efficient utilization of resources while maintaining quality standards. Supports system contracts for learning management resources to ensure system needs are met, maintained, and properly allocated for utilization.
Licensing/Certification
Current RN License in primary state or active RN license covered by NLC (Required)Education
Doctorate of Nursing/DNP (Required)
PhD (Preferred)
Work Experience
12-15+ years in progressive healthcare leadership roles with significant business impact (Required)
Previous experience in nursing operations in progressive leadership roles, previous experience of ANCC Magnet or Pathways to Excellence program requirements (Preferred)
