Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Propulsion Division is currently seeking an experienced Chemist/Principal Chemist to join our Mechanical and Chemical Test Services team at Bacchus, UT.
The Chemist/Principal Chemist is responsible for providing support to a wide variety of chemical and physical analyses on various energetic and inert materials to assess acceptability against defined requirements. They will help resolve issues related to testing including troubleshooting, tooling, instrument repair and replacement, Hazards testing and analysis, and will lead or support various investigations of energetic and inert laboratory processes. The successful candidate will work with other experienced chemists and technicians who operate analytical test equipment including chromatographic and spectroscopic instruments, viscometers, titrators, particle size analyzers, mechanical testing instruments, and various other instruments and laboratory equipment. A fast-paced laboratory environment offers the flexibility to learn new skill sets of interest while developing expertise in problem solving.
Job Duties:
Perform burn rate, viscosity, and other chemical and physical properties testing on propellants to support operational issues
Fabricate specimens and perform testing on inert materials such as rubber, composites, and adhesives
Perform limited maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of instruments and processes
Help maintain laboratory infrastructure including instruments and tooling
Design and manage experiments to improve processes and solve related issues
Maintain neat and accurate records to company standards
Candidate will be expected to maintain a high standard of operational discipline to support clean, safe, and efficient operations
Experience Requirements:
Candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of related experience for Chemist or 5 Years experience with bachelor's in chemistry for Principal Chemist; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.
Some experience with use of scientific instrumentation and equipment is required
Basic computer and software competencies are required
Flexibility to occasionally work swing shift and weekends, when required
Must be a U.S Citizen

Experience Preferred:
A candidate with 2-4 years with direct experience working in a laboratory environment with chemical or mechanical testing
Experience with handling and disposal of energetic materials
Skills & Qualifications:

Strong hands-on work ethic and can-do attitude
Demonstrated attention to detail
Discipline to follow detailed instructions and comply to procedures
Education/Certifications:
Candidate must have a minimum of an ACS accredited Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and 2 years' experience
Position can be filled one level higher with 5 Years experience with bachelor's in Chemistry; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.
Salary Range: $75,300 - $112,900
Salary Range 2: $92,600 - $139,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
