Responsible for developing, planning, and implementing strategies, work plans, goals, efficiencies and solutions for transcription and chart completion of medical records for UW Medicine
Manages staff and implements productivity and work quality tools and goals DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
Enterprise Records and Health Information (ERHI) is a Shared Service Department that supports all aspects of the patient medical record from governance, integrity, documentation timeliness, completion, clinical coding, billing, release, and tracking to management of access, retention, and destruction.
ERHI provides advice and resources related to the lifecycle management of all UW Medicine records
ERHI is an integral part of the Enterprise Revenue Cycle and has a unique role in the organization that supports both clinical and operational activities. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs and manages the operations of the transcription staff and the chart completion staff, including oversight of classified staff and ensures staff supervision and performance evaluations take place
Ensures project schedules and deadlines are met and ensures staff are held accountable for their work responsibilities and are compliant with legal and regulatory requirements as applicable
Develops processes and workflows to promote accurate and trusted content of electronic medical records and identifies areas for process improvements and utilizes change management and other project management methodologies to promote success
Plans and develops active collaborations with other departments and entities throughout UW Medicine
Collaborates with providers regarding transcription services and timeliness of documentation
Ensures the development of reports and metrics related to office goals and activities.
Works with UWM IT and other stakeholders regarding the use and upkeep of the EHR as it relates to the Deficiency Tracking module
Works with vendors, such as Epic and DeliverHealth, to optimize the systems used by the Transcription and Chart Completion teams. Develops and implements service level agreements when necessary
Manages department budget; assists Director with planning fiscal year efficiencies. Ensures compliance with UWM accounting practices as it relates to invoicing.
Ensures collaboration between various teams under the position's management, and with other members of ERHI. Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field and 4 years’ experience in a complex academic, research, healthcare or governmental setting, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Knowledge and experience with electronic medical records; knowledge and experience with transcription and chart completion; knowledge and experience with applying professional standards and information governance principles toward electronic health records.
