In this exciting time of growth, we're searching for a Casual Site Reliability Engineer to join our growing Technical Operations team here at Instaclustr. Now part of Spot by NetApp, we are a Canberra based open source as-a-service company, delivering reliability at scale. We manage cutting edge open-source technologies (Cassandra, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Redis, OpenSearch and Cadence) for our customers around the world.

We have developed a platform that takes care of the whole lifecycle: provisioning infrastructure, installing applications and, most importantly, keeping the applications running reliably in production.
Our Site Reliability Engineers are the frontline team keeping our large fleet of cloud-hosted Apache Cassandra, Kafka, Spark, Redis, Postgres, OpenSearch and Cadence clusters up and running. Every day they solve interesting technical challenges to ensure some of the leading global names in the industry can deliver their services to millions of end users. Your work will ensure the security, reliability and performance of world-class systems and databases. You will collaborate with our customer's technical teams, from globally recognised companies in the gaming, banking and logistics industry sectors, ranging from big multinationals to emerging start-ups.

The Role
As a Casual Site Reliability Engineer, you will be working within Instaclustr's Technical Operations team, within the Product division.
You will contribute to the day to day work of the team and be exposed to a range of different activities and challenges, including:
Working as a team member in the continuous improvement team identifying and driving tooling, automation and process improvements to benefit the wider Technical Operations team.Resolving issues using a ticketing system, providing operational support to our fleet using technologies such as Linux (Debian), Docker, and using programming languages including Java, Python and bash.Analysing data, investigating trends, and generating data visualisations.Documentation review, organisation and maintenance.You will also get the opportunity to contribute to the improvement of widely used software by contributing to Open source projects directly.
Job Requirements
To be considered, you need to be currently studying an undergraduate degree or postgraduate studies in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline. Interest in data science and open-source technologies is a plus.
How to Stand Out
Knowledge of database management or Unix system administration is desirable.Basic programming skills and bash scripting. Familiarity with Python, Java, or SQL is highly desirable.Experience with Linux and working with command line is desirable.Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) is desirable.Experience working with data science and BI tools (Apache Superset, Pandas, Python, MS Excel/Google Sheets) is desirable.Any customer service experience is favourable (retail, hospitality, call centre experience... )
Location and Hours
Approximately 19 hours per week during semester and 38/hrs a week during university break.Working location will be at our office on the University of Canberra campus.
