The Automation Technology team is responsible for the overall strategy, performance, delivery and maintenance of robotics automations and other automated solutions across the organization as part of CarMax’s back-office intelligent automation service model and continuous improvement initiatives.
Purpose of the role
The purpose of the Automation Process Engineer role is to identify, define and design robotics and/or other automated solutions with a focus on industry standard process engineering methods, cross-functional collaboration, delivery, and continuous improvement.
What you will do – Essential Responsibilities:
Leverage technical and process engineering expertise to lead automation identification opportunities, build business use cases, calculate return on investment, estimate level of effort and provide design specification guidance and consultation to business teams.
Analyze highly complex business requirements and write technical specifications to design or redesign processes relative to technical platforms, applications, integration points, data and controls as well as document and develop end to end solutions using CarMax’s automation suite i.e. robotics process automation, Microsoft Power Platform, Python etc.
Work closely with software engineers, business functional teams/leaders and technology partners to ensure technical, business, quality, security, and compliance requirements are validated and are in accordance with CarMax’s best practices and standards.
Lead process and technology teams in developing integration, end-to-end and UAT test strategy as well as test execution with a focus on technical and business requirement validation and respective debugging; building deployment plans, creating turnover and release documents as well as stabilization planning.
Lead, mentor, develop and train process teams and less experienced analysts using technical expertise, best practices and industry standards for robotics process automation, automation technology, process engineering and continuous improvement methodology.
Supporting special projects as assigned by Senior members of the team and performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
5+ years of relevant experience (practice/lead)
Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent work experience
Process engineering and technology design experience required
Blue Prism or other robotics process automation technology experience required
Understanding of object-based coding, macros and programming languages such as SQL, Python, Java, VBA and/or .Net and APIs
Experience with Microsoft (Excel, Access, PowerPoint) required
Familiarity with intelligent automated solutions such as Power Platform, computer vision and data visualization
Knowledge of Project Management methodology (agile or waterfall)
Ability to communicate with and influence a variety of audiences including technology developers, engineers, business analysts, business partners, stakeholders and senior management
Excellent analytical, problem solving skills
Knowledge of systems software development lifecycle including solution design, development, testing, documentation, deployment, operational support and maintenance
Ability to manage multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously to deliver on tight timeframes, adapt to changing priorities and drive to achieve team goals independently
Ability to work independently to resolve discrepancies, defects, and issues with the understanding of system and business impact and when to escalate/partner respectively
Ability to think logically and conduct root cause analysis
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical details to a non-technical audience and good written skills with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation
Ability to consider long- and short-term impact of decisions
Translate business requirements into technical solutions
Clearly define and document system requirements, end user training and operational support strategies
Ability to train, develop and mentor associates
Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA CarMax Technology Innovation Center, Atlanta CAF Center, or the Dallas, TX Technology Hub and have a Hybrid work arrangement.
Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
