The School of Arts and Sciences-Newark (SASN) is a place where exploration, discovery, and imagination come together to form the core of a liberal arts education. Posting Summary
Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Business Assistant I. This position is a member of the Dean's Office team in the School of Arts and Sciences-Newark (SASN), embracing the challenges of achieving community goals and supporting team efforts to grow together.The position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Provides coordination and/or support in the areas of budget, accounting, and payroll as well as for a wide range of business functions
  • Monitors Dean's Office budgets and expenditures
  • Supports monthly closing, year-end closing, and working budget processes
  • Prepares a variety of business transactions
  • Trains SASN employees on financial, procurement, and other systems
  • Provides administrative and operational support to SASN leadership, in day-to-day operations, projects, processes, and cyclical responsibilities as needed
  • Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, stakeholder-focused, highly confidential environment with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the Dean's Office, SASN, and Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), and the role the tasks and responsibilities of this position play in the achievement of these goals.

SASN is the second largest unit in the Rutgers system, with two colleges, the Newark College of Arts and Sciences (NCAS) and University College-Newark (UC-N). The Dean's Office serves over 1,000 faculty and staff members and over 6,000 students housed in more than 25 academic departments, programs, centers, and other units.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of accounting or bookkeeping.

Position regularly uses MS Office Suite, Cornerstone, SASN appointments system, Tableau, Oracle, ECRT, Box, and knows or will learn any and all systems RU uses for accounting, expense reimbursement, effort certification, budgeting, payroll, procurement, and facilities, and knows or will learn the all equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.
