SUMMARY
New York Edge is seeking an energetic, dynamic and skilled individual to fill the role of Boxing Instructor. In this part-time role you will provide targeted, skill and age-appropriate instruction, coaching and mentorship to youth in New York Edge’s after-school programs. Boxing Instructors organize and lead physical activity programming at their site, ensuring the safety of all program participants. You will serve as role models to all New York Edge participants with regard to professionalism and sportsmanship.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Ensure daily activity lesson plans and projects are structured, age-appropriate, and have clear learning goals focused on enhancing boxing techniques and overall physical fitness. (Note: boxing activities should not include sparring.)
Ensure the health, safety and well-being of participants in the program, by providing close supervision of all activities and demonstrating proper use of materials and equipment.
Provide a fun, safe and positive experience for all participants and create an all-inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
Enforce safety rules and regulations governing sports, recreational activities, and the use of equipment.
Teach rules, fundamentals and enhance basic skills while emphasizing teamwork and sportsmanship.
Teach progressive lessons and provide opportunities to demonstrate learned skills.
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
Ensure that all equipment is age-appropriate, safe and in proper working condition. This includes conducting monthly equipment safety checks.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum of (1) one year of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.
Minimum one (1) year experience teaching children/teens sports in a structured setting.
Must be responsible, reliable and punctual
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
Physical requirements including ability to wear all PPE required, climb stairs, communicate by voice, monitor and evaluate events visually and aurally.
Must have passion for New York Edge mission and demonstrated interest in the field of education and youth development.
CPR/AED Certification Preferred
Candidates who are qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity preferred.
Work Week:
6-10 hours per week.
The Boxing instructor will be required to report to their assigned school buildings and interact with students, staff, parents and school administration while following all local, state, and federal guidelines, policies and mandates.
At time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
