Job Description:
The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine is seeking a full time Biological Scientist II. The incumbent will conduct basic research in an immunology lab focusing on pulmonary vascular disease. Knowledge of neuronal and lung pathology, human tissue and mouse handling is highly desirable. Should be able to design and execute experiments and analyze data. Ability to develop lab protocols and reports, make presentations in lab and divisional meetings.
In addition to conducting research, the individual will be responsible for lab management activities within the lab including developing and evaluating laboratory procedures, maintaining laboratory equipment, maintaining mouse colonies and ordering and tracking lab consumables. The applicant must be organized, dependable and have meticulous attention to detail and the ability to finish assignments on time.
Essential Functions;
This position will assist with the management of the laboratory. Duties include: performing experiments, evaluating data, performing literature reviews supervision and training of other laboratory personnel, ordering of supplies, maintaining records and registrations (i.e: maintenance and repair of equipment, laboratory safety and interaction with the various regulatory entities (i.e: Environmental Health and Safety, Radiation Safety, DEA and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee). Order laboratory supplies, assist with inventorying, and budgeting for lab.
Conduct basic research in an immunology lab focusing on immune cell contribution to vascular lung disease and brain/lung signaling axis, maintain mouse colonies.
Organize and analyze experimental data, including data measurement, data tabulation and analysis.
Collaborates with investigator on the design and implementation of laboratory techniques. Works independently to establish and optimize new methodologies in the laboratory. Once new methodologies are established, is responsible for instruction of other laboratory members, quality control, and troubleshooting.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Expected Salary:
$45,600 - $59,262 Annually
Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in biology or a related field with 1 year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred applicant will have a master’s degree in biology and previous laboratory experience in lung and brain pathology, working with human and murine models of disease. Expertise in immunological techniques- Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS), Flow cytometry, FlowJo analysis and ELISA., histology staining and imaging • Proficiency in ImageJ software and quantification
